Is there a game you love that comes from a genre you normally hate?

Like for example, I for the most part don't care for racing games whatsoever like Gran Turismo, Need For Speed, etc. But for some reason the few times I'm at an arcade and see Star Wars Episode I Racer, I have to play at least once even though I've never finished a race (for me the arcade controls are hard, the console version I'm a little better at but not by much). I know this sounds very dumb but you all follow my logic? What about the rest of you?

I haven't been much of a fan of FPS's for quite some time, but when Boarderlands came out, I spent HOURS cracking out on it.

Battlefront 2 is the game that turned me on to FPS. Before that i didn't touch them since the majority of my FPS experience came from UT and Quake Arena. I didn't like them because it felt like "we are shootign each other because we can. End of story"

While Battlefront is still essentially an arena shooter it gave a feeling of context and immenseness to the concept. I wasn't just shooting people because i wanted to score points. I was fighting the rebel scum. My love of the genre took off from there.

So yeah, at the time BF2.

Wasn't Battlefront 3rd person? It's been awhile, so I may be wrong.

Its both, you can choose. I played it from a FP perspective.

Yes. I dislike FPS games, but I really like Perfect Dark, Mirrors Edge and Bioshock.

I would also say Fallout 3, but that's far more of an RPG than a FPS.
Isn't Mirrors Edge more of a first person platformer?
Personally I like Demons Souls from the genre of games hard enough to make you cry.

Not a fan of racing games, but I used to love Burnout. Mainly cause I was good at take downs, felt more like a demolition derby than a racer.

Come to think of it, I do like racing games, but only the ones that are like demolition derbys or have rediculous weapon attachments etc.

Never really been fond of tower defense games, but I LOVE Plants vs Zombies (it combines my two favorite things--gardening and zombie apocalypses! It's the cutest inferred holocaust ever!)

I generally dislike racing games, but Need for Speed: Underground and Gran Turismo 2 were both a whole lot of fun.

I dislike sports games as well, but that doesn't stop me from having fond memories of World Cup 98, FIFA 98 and NBA Live 99.

I hate fighting games but love Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. Also, I hate RTS games, but I loved (and I mean loved) Dawn of War and it's expansions. Especially Dark Crusade.

Generallt I strongly dislike hack and slash games. I don't know why but they just rarely seem to appeal to me.

And yet I looove Otogi: Myth of demons.

I'm really not in to sport/racing games and don't play them. I thought burn-out was fun. Played it for 45 min. or so and left it alone. That was a new record on a genre that I don't like.

I dont have a genre I hate. I dont believe in discriminating a game genre and auto-feel reluctant to try a game from it. Therefore I cant really answer the full question however, I never really expected much from RDR being a western sandbox game and it never ceased to amaze me after the hours I spent on it.
