Is there a link between Steam downloads and Youtube suggestions?

I bought Portal 2 last summer, and just got around to downloading it last night. I logged into Steam and played 5 minutes before turning it off. About half an hour later, I went on Youtube to find a video for my son and the most predominant suggestion, center stage if you will, is a Pewdiepie Portal 2 video. To call that a coincidence seems to be a bit of a stretch. Any ideas? Is there some way Youtube is interpreting my online actions and habits?

Hmm, not sure. If steam uses google analytics that would explain it, but I really don't know if they do.

To be honest, I've never had this happen. Could it just be a random coincidence? Try playing other really popular games and see if they show up too!

I doubt Steam and Google are connected, maybe you or your son were looking at Portal 2 vids earlier on YT causing it to recommend more.

YouTube's Recommended Videos are broken a lot of the time. You could watch say one My Little Pony clip that was about 5 seconds by accident and then Google will suggest nothing but MLP videos in general. That being said, you're browser history is used to show what ads appear around the site itself.

I've never noticed it before either which is why I thought it was so weird. I know coincidences happen but that seems just a touch too convenient. I've played multiple games through Steam before and never had one of them show up on Youtube.

No, I haven't looked at any Portal 2 videos since the game first came out and my son is 3 so that's not a possibility.

I could definitely believe that there would be an advertising link of some sort, except that Portal 2 wasn't showing up in one of the banners. It was right in the middle of the page where a Game of Thrones video had been a few hours before.
