Proudly? Or just admit?

Cause I'll proudly say I'm a Michigan guy, but I don't like sharing with strangers I root for the Lions[footnote]And yes, I realize the irony given my username, but I doubt half the people on this site realize what I'm talking about[/footnote], it makes people all sad and depressed

I guess I'm part of the scientific community, and we're mostly an idealistic bunch trying to learn more about the universe and how to harness it to do cool things. The people also tend to be way more interesting than the average joe and to be more up for debate/questioning things.

Ha! The lions XD

I think they're the reason there're so many U of M and MSU fans around here. They can't take supporting the team through thick and thin so they jumped ship XD

Waaay more college fans than anywhere else I've seen :)

OT: I am a proud member of the Injustice league!

...ok not really XD

There's nothing to be proud of. It's just a bunch of friends who chew the fat with each other and put on a "we're evil" schtick once in awhile :)

Yeah I'm not really proud of any groups I'm in per se. I admire the people I've worked with in groups like my Robotics team, but not proud. They're achievements aren't mine. I can't be proud of them, just happy for to have known awesome people.

None, really. Pretty much every community I'm a part of has plenty of bad sides in comparison to their good sides, even this one. If I'm going to be proud about one of them, they'd have to be good overall with maybe a very tiny bit of bad. Sadly, no community I'm associated with fits the bill at all.

Admittedly, I used to be proud to be a part of the Brony community, since during its early days it genuinely seemed to be the friendliest and genuinely nicest community I've ever been a part of. Sadly, those days are long gone, and the MLP fandom is just... well, another fandom with its fair share of fan-dumb. Maybe a tad more than most, arguably.

I try to stay active in the firearm community but living in the barracks on a military base doesn't allow me to be too active believe it or not. I was really active with my local motorcycle club but then alot of people sold their bikes and we stopped going on big rides. Le sigh...

I would consider myself a proud Libertarian. I would also consider myself a proud Christian (though our community has its faults).

An Astronaut would probably be something I'd be proud to call myself. Do they have a community? Space Walkers Anonymous? We are running out of prestigious groups to belong to.

Maybe a Buddhist? They are mostly pretty chill folks.

I guess I can say with some sort of pride that being a New Zealander does carry a certain amount of international respect or at least lack of negativity. The worst thing people can say is (jokingly) that we fornicate with sheep which is so obviously a joke as to be pointless? and that?s the only bad thing.

Hrm...I'm a member of the ACLU as well as a card carrying member of Dr. Steel's Army of Toy Soldiers.

Beyond that no, I don't really self associate with many of the groups I interact with.

This is the only community I'm a part of and I can't say I'm proud of it, it's rather dull, not sure why I've stuck around for so many years.

I don't really feel proud of being in a community, because most communities don't have any standards for entrance, it's hard to be proud of something you can basically just declare yourself a part of. I never got the whole being proud of a bunch of strangers who share similar traits with me. I'm not proud of being a gamer, or a nerd, or even an American. I'm happy with all these things and I like being in the respective communities, but why should I feel proud for just being a part of something.

Any community that is large enough, starts to have problems as more people gather the more problems start cropping up. I don't let other people's problems effect my view of a community so I'm perfectly happy being labeled a gamer and liking games, even if the community itself has a multitude of problems, there are still a multitude more that are great to be around. Same reason I don't judge most other communities for their few crazies (excepting illegal, or unethical actions of course).

People who become too proud of their communities also tend to become irrationally attached to them, they start to ignore problems and let people do terrible things just because they are part of the same community or group. It just seems so much easier to be happy in a community rather than proud of it.

"Long gone"? I haven't noticed much of a difference. With the increase in the Brony community, the formerly rare douches, trolls, and cloppers-who-are-WAY-too-vocal-about-their-fetish have become a bit more than "rare" of late, but for the most part all I see is charities, conventions, all forms of art with varying levels of skill, and good ol' fashioned loving and tolerating.

Is there perhaps a facet I'm missing? Or is it just the increase in size and the "riff-raff" said increase entails that bothers you?

I think it's dumb to stand behind something that doesn't matter. I have no problem with people liking it. Proudly standing behind it, why? Its like anybody who defends a console. Like somebody who sticks up for the Xbox whenever somebody says something bad about it. Is Microsoft paying your bills? Are they doing your chores? Are they getting you out of some kind of bind? No they are not. Either is this place or Facebook, or the millions of other websites out there.

I'm not really PROUD of any community - ones I'm a part of or not - as every community has that vocal minority that ruins everything for the rest, and tars and brands their image. There are communities I ENJOY being a part of, such as the Brony community (they're a lot of fun, and ALWAYS have a charity going on somewhere). And there are groups that I don't enjoy being a part of but still am, such as Christianity. I like being a Christian, but the thousands of conflicting beliefs, misinterpretations, scandals, and ignorance spread throughout the group has made me feel an outsider in my own collective faith. Then again, I have a lot of... er, "unique" beliefs that also set me apart from the "herd", so to speak, but nevertheless a wedge has been driven between me and the Christian community.

So, in essence, no. There is no group I would be comfortable with shouting from the rooftops that I am a part of.

Hmmm...for me to be proud of it, wouldn't it require that there's entry requirements, you have to do something worthwhile to get in? Can't think of many groups I'm in that have that.
