Because I get recommended videos on youtube and most of it is about Superheroes. Then I actually looked at their channels and all they ever talk about is Superheroes and Star Wars.

All see in these channels has videos about why Disney's Star Wars sucks, Why Marvel does movies better then DC, how awesome Marvel movies are, etc.

I look at these channels and I feel they are all done by the same person, spouting the same goddamn opinions, that at this point I feel the youtube movie community is completely and utterly stagnant.

Like why isn't there anyone talking about movies like An American in Paris, On the Waterfront, The English Patient, The Conversation, etc. and only talks about those movies not paying a single lip service to what is popular in the mainstream blockbuster scene at the moment.

Well, you're always going to find the biggest coverage about the biggest subjects. Just a fact of life.

This channel talks about historical movies a lot.

Mark Kermode? I mean, he's also radio and television, but I use youtube to view him, so am basically counting it. He's a jolly fella.

I am already aware and acquainted with History Buffs, I gave him the idea to do Goodfellas.

Still waiting for him to lambast infamously historically inaccurate movies, if only to understand why they are inaccurate. Like JFK.

Eh, not what I am looking for.

And is Your Movie Sucks.org named after Roger Ebert's book?

The very first thing she mentions in her video regarding movie musicals was a shallow attempt to compare Modern Superhero Blockbusters/Cinematic Universes with the epic moive musicals of the 50s and 60s.

And I disagree with her with the Hobbit movies. Goodness what a pretentious farce.

Cinema Snob aka Brad Jones. His primary series covers obscure b movies, his midnight reviews hit everything and there are additional shows/discussions talking about movie stuff including those he has made.

I like the guy, his midnight reviews always feel honest and his shows indicate a deep knowledge of movie production.

I'll second Kermode, he has solid movie chops, but it is far more mature of an outlook which can be nice or can be annoying.

Rossatron and GoodBadFlicks. Ross generally covers action movies, but he has some superhero stuff. GBF mostly covers b-grade horror, Sci-fi, and action films. I highly recommend both; especially the former. just recently he has a video with the editor of the recent Mission Impossible films. And he has a video with Scott Atkins on his most recent movie The Accident Man. Which is based off of a non superhero comic book.

Maybe try Every Frame a Painting, Nerdwriter and Now You See It. While they tend to use classic films more as a way to prove a cinematic point, they usually stick to just one or two movies per video. Fascinating stuff.

I thought you loved superhero movies.

Anyway, some of my suggestions have already been mentioned, so there's a channel called Pieces of Work. Last time I checked that guy covered asian movies only.

I would like someone to talk about something not made by Hollywood.
A lot of them complain about movies being shit nowadays but none of them will look at indie or foreign stuff (other than anime).

Because that movie puts people to sleep.

But all I am seeing is Superhero movies. And to be frank all this negativity against movies these days is starting to make me give up on new movies entirely because I can't enjoy anything without picking apart to bad aspects of the movie. I was uninvested watching Mission Impossible Fallout.

Why did it won Best Picture?

Youtube's algorithm rewards those who talk about pop culture (e.g. Star Wars and Superheroes) and when they branch out to lesser known films they tend to get lower views than usual. You'd be probably better off looking for podcasts or film magazine that'll provide the discussions you want. Otherwise if you don't like all the negativity against films try CinemaWins maybe.

One of the sad truths of life is that there are actual more talented video game critics on YouTube than there are talented film critics. Unless you wanna settle for the likes of Jeremy Jahns and Chris "Tell that to Zod's snapped neck" Stuckmann. both of which are utter hacks. There has yet to be a Noah Gervais of YouTube film criticism.

A critic I, however cautiously, recommend is Renegade Cut.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HkRPzmYxhU

his material is solid but I'm the first to admit that his actual delivery is, well... a bit on the dull side.

One I can recommend wholeheartedly is Shannon Strucci. Not the most active but her videos, especially the longer ones are very insightful and well researched.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLKIikCg9s4

Nyx Fears is mostly focussed on Horror movies but she does good work. Plus, she's a huge David Lynch fan so I find it hard not to like her.

https://www.youtube.com/user/BrutalMovieReview/videos

You've probably heard of Lindsey Ellis. Her videos tend to revolve around genre stuff too but at least she finds interesting things to talk about. Don't really agree with her about the Transformers series but hey, nobody's perfect.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG1h-Wqjtwz7uUANw6gazRw

And that's just about all I can recommend in good conscience. Film criticism on YouTube isn't in a great state right now. I think as a form of expression it's still struggling to get out of its Nostalgia Critic phase.

Go check out a list of all Best Picture winners and see how many are actually memorable or even remembered at all.

Anyway.. Lindsay Ellis is great. That's the only person I actively follow in that regard. Nerdwritter has some good stuff. There's also a Matter of Film and Every Frame a Picture. Folding Ideas can sometimes have something interesting, but uploads very infrequent. Cinefix has a certain quality, but is mostly top 10 lists and is a bit too in love with old movies.

Because of CinemaSins? That's the only one of the same style that's still really popular that I can think of.

Or is it because nobody else likes BvS? :^)

That's a symptom, McElroy, that's a symptom. No, but what I mean is its general obsession with "nerdy" subject matters. All of that pop cultrue fetishism, endless circlejerking about Marvel and Star Wars and DC and whatever else the kids are into. It's not even like I don't think these properties don't deserve to have someone look at them closer, quite the opposite, I'm the biggest proponent of approaching pop culture analytically and trying to work out what it's actually expressing but at the same time I feel it's pushed a lot of other work worth analyzing to the sidelines.

I mean, obviously that's something I'm also guilty of, when I talk about movies I very often talk about popular movies because I'm well aware that noone gives a shit about Come and See or On the Silver Globe or Love Exposure or whatever else obscure movie I just happen to care about but that's part of the problem, really. All those great, classic movies are readily available now. Only ten years ago I had to jump through a whole load of hoops to see El Topo in 360p quality with a, surprisingly high quality, german dub. Now a digitally remastered 4K version in original language and 15 different subtitles is only about two mouseclicks away. It's like an all you can eat buffet of great, overlooked movies just waiting to be discovered and analyzed.
