Is there any other way to watch someone play a game live other than livestream?

You see, a friend of mine has decided to start playing horror games, a great idea which is bound to have some hillarious screams and jump-scares to scenarios in the game. While just talking trough skype is fine and all, it would be a lot funnier if could see him playing the game live and maybe even give him an advice or two. But considering this is just a clever little idea and is limited to just the two of us, we're not exactly motivated to pay 45$ a month so I could watch him play every now and then.

So I'm just curious, do you people know of any alternatives to livestream?
Like I said, it's just for two PCs (not to mention we only live like 5km away from each other so stuff like ping or whatever shouldn't be a problem)and it would be used to watch the other person's monitor activity (meaning video games). I wasn't convinced by teamviewer, since someone posted a video of just how terrible the quality is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp6KBHgKmf0.

But if you think that teamviewer should be fine and that the guy in the video was doing something wrong, please let me now :)

Any other feedback would be great!

Do you want to view your friend, or what he's playing? ManyCam is free and you can stream the desktop to the other participants - then just get Skype, Google Hangouts, or TwitchTV, etc. to broadcast the feed.

Skype has screen sharing if they can play the game in windowed mode.
Also, I believe Livestream Procaster is free and is decent.
