Is there much worth in me getting Left 4 Dead 1?

Been playing L4D2 now for a while, and now I'm online, it's equal parts stress reducing and increasing with how some plyers play.

With Payday coming up, I was thinking about getting the Original, to see why some people boycotted the 2nd one.

But in my mind, I would assume it would be more of the same but with no Melee weapons and a lot darker. Plus with the L4D2 DLC having a Map from the Original, would I be 'kind of' wasting my money buying a whole new game when I could get (apparently) everyones favourite map from the 1st game as DLC WITH Melee weapons?

Pros and Cons people, is it worth me getting the original game when I have L4D2?

I say rent it only if your really interested in seeing how the game changed. Not much of a reason to go back to it.

People only boycotted 2 because they felt it was too soon, not because it wasn't good enough. Remember, it wasn't even out when they boycotted it.

Rent it perhaps.

Depends what console your on. PC has a great custom map back catalogue, plus free Crash course campaign. Xbox doesent have these, but id still reccomend giving it a try.

PC, definite, especiall since its about £15 on steam

Xbox, try to give it a try first

I've played through both and I believe L4D2 was disappointing and didn't hold up to the original. Not to say it wasn't good. I'd buy it mos def.

From the perspective who got L4D1 3 months before L4D2 came out and not even knowing it did;

I liked L4D2 for the first 5 hours I had to play through all the campaigns with bots. After that I racked up about 100 hours having no fun whatsoever except for the occasional scavenge match with friends.

It wasn't all just because it came out too soon, maybe I just don't like change, but I didn't like the feel of the second. I still play the first, but unless you know a bunch of people who still play it you're going to be thrown into a one-sided Versus game where it's the wannabe-pros versus the people who don't know how to pounce let alone open up the chat to ask.

In conclusion:
Pros: Atmosphere, if you're into it; Custom campaigns; sv_cheats 1 in multiplayer w/o Sourcemod; Demos don't break every week ;), a more polished game
Cons: Less content, FARRR less people, probably no more support after The Sacrifice (servers will still be up of course)

There was sort of a recent surge of players again because of sales (oh god the newbies) and the CEVO throwback tourney that is going on right now, but I think the competitive scene is going to be dead after this. Not quite sure yet though.

Gameplay wise L4D2 offers more, but L4D1 will introduce you to the other characters and the maps were also pretty good. There are also a lot of custom maps out for it. More so than for L4D2 I think, but that is probably only a matter of time. People boycotted L4D2 because as an earlier poster said it came out too soon. They were actually developing in parallel, so we felt a bit ripped off by having a whole new game come out with things that seemed almost like they should have been patches or free downloads. However imo L4D2 turned out to be pretty good and tbh if a friend of mine told me today hey I wanna play with you which one should I buy (and actually this did happen) I would say buy L4D2 since it is actually the better game.

So since you already have L4D2, if you have some extra money I would see if there is anything else out there that interests you first, if not then go ahead and grab L4D1.
