Is this a good gaming setup and will it keep pace with upcoming games?

My old system has finally hit the wall, TF2 runs at 10 fps, Starcraft 2 needs to be set to the lowest possible settings, and I just had to give up on L4D2. Thankfully I have new system coming in soon that only cost me $700 (about half of what I paid for this one) that should be alot better. What I want to know from anyone out there is whether or not it will be outdated very quickly like my last system or if it will last a decent ammount of time.

Here's the specs:

Processor Type: AMD Phenom

Processor Speed (per Core):2.6 GHz

Processor Configuration:Quad Core

Memory (RAM):4 GB

Hard Drive Capacity:1,000 GB

Graphics Card: 9500gt

Operating System: Windows 7

I know enough to know it beats the hell out of my current system but I need someone to tell me if it's good enough to last a while.

Probably.

If I had that, I'd hang on to it for probably 4 years. I'm also the wrong guy to ask.

That will last you a year at most (although it really depends if you want to play at a crappy resolution) hell its more then outdated now (your video card is 4 generations old)... did you buy or build that yourself? This is coming from a person who built his own computer a year ago that can max crysis at 1080p @ 70+FPS avg.

That system will be regardless when Crysis 2 comes out...since that game will blow up any system known to man.

Sorry, just felt like...being a dick? It's a good setup.
Ironic that you mention cyrsis since I hope to play the original once my new system gets here.

I'm far from an expert, but from the looks of it you should manage okay for the games you mention - even my ancient PC on it's last legs can run TF2 okay. The graphics card doesn't look like it will cut it for long though, especially if you want to play games like Crysis. How important are graphics for you?

Everything else being equal, a graphics card upgrade will make a massive improvement to that machine I think.

Upgrade your GPU to a ATI Radeon HD 5770. That will last you a long time with the other hardware.

Considering I haven't played on anything other than very low for the past four years I think I can manage decently well. I'm pretty sure I can upgrade the card when I have enough cash for it but at least I'm getting a decent system for really cheap.

How much would that cost? There's a very good reason I'm getting such a cheap system so I can't spring for a $500 card at the moment.

I'm very sorry I have nothing to add to the thread but 12 GIGABYTES of RAM? Things like this make me feel old.

Good god it's only 10 years ago that a 166MHz processor, 64Mb of RAM and a 3D card of any kind would let you play any game. And the 3d card was optional.

Nevermind Terabyte hard drives being commonplace now.

If you can dig up the extra bucks, I'd go for a 6870 video card for $250. Combine that with say...6GB of ram and that system should last you for a good 2 years.

About $150. Trust me - the 9500 GT is a pile of shit. It was a pile of shit when it came out, and it's even worse now.
Still it has to be better than my current card a 8300 GS.

Actually that screenshot is quite old, my cpu is watercooled running at 4.2Ghz My 12 gigs of ram is running at 2000mhz, and I have 4 separate GPUs the specs are just 896mb of Vram per GPU, 1.7 gigs per card.

As said before the only problem here is the 9500 GT - change that to something better - e.g. ATI HD 5*** and you will be fine for a long time :)

crysis 2 is going to run softer than the first one, looking at the little bits where its multiplatform.
that said, a 9500gt is a little old and weak, I think that getting an ati HD770 would make it run great for the next several years.

New graphic card you need. That is all. I recently got a GTX 460. I am pleased.

You need a better graphics card, other than that it looks ok. If you REALLY wanted to future proof it you'd get 8 gigs of ram and really go to town on a processor, but that isn't necessary.
