So today I delivered food to these two guys annnnd I was telling them about how shady the place I work at is. I then tell them that my boss has charged me 20 dollars for a missing slip last night. They then tell ME that it's illegal to do that, like charging a waiter money when the person they have waited on runs out of the restaurant. So I was just wondering if it is actually illegal?

The guy who did my papers last night said there wasn't a pink or yellow slip (pink slip goes to the store and the yellow slip goes to the driver) so how the hell did they know about them missing? Also I work in the pizza delivery buisness

I think its illegal but its common. I have been charged, as a waiter, for food that was wasted because I screwed up the order. Then I stole some things to make up for it.

Its illegal but what recourse do you have? It becomes a "your word against ours" thing and they will just fire you if you persist.

he's full of crap. if there's no paper, he can't take from your pay because he has no proof.

I think he can't do that, but what are you gonna do, sue hime for twenty bucks, then you'll lose your job, and that's not worth twenty bucks.

Hmmmm, that's a damn good question. Granted you should probably check the company's policy on the matter. If you agreed to it, you agreed to it :/

My college lecturer asures me in the industry if we (Chefs) waste food, we're gonna pay for it. So I don't know really*. He's been in the business for 20 years, and my other lecturer agrees (14 years). I'm not big on Law but I'd go with the contract thing.

*Course has only just finished. Haven't worked as a Chef yet to know for definate (i.e. experience).

That's docking of pay with no valid proof of reason, which is a breach of contract unless that missing slip charges are a clause in it. Check your contract or consult the Citizen's Advice Bureau because that sounds quite highly illegal to me.If that is in your contract might i recommend quitting because that is diabolical

No clue, but my ***** of a boss I worked for last made me do that.

Someone ran out on a 70 dollar bill and she made me pay for it, so maybe it is legal.

You could check your job contract, I'm not sure if its illegal or not
I should also mention I never signed any papers or tax forms
haha then don't complain. Getting paid under the table is bad for both of you, and getting in that deep with the IRS over 20 bucks is stupid.
