I was thinking about getting this laptop for college and as much gaming as I can get out of a $700 budget. My friend suggested this build for me. I'm asking you, the internet, to help me decide if this is any good or not, as I have a very limited knowledge of hardware/pc gaming.

Welpers, it's not a bad looking laptop. The graphics hard is only middle range (you can look at it's benchmarks and performance ratings for different games here [http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7690M.67737.0.html]).

It can play Skyrim and Metro 2033 on medium graphics over 30fps, so it's pretty decent. Can't tell you much about the processor though because I'm only really knowledgeable with Intel processors.

I read up on the processor, and it said it was weaker than an Intel but did perfectly fine for anything gaming related. And on the benchmark for Witcher 2 where it says "not playable with weaker graphics card" does that mean this machine couldn't run that game at all, or just on that "weaker" graphics card?

Well, when they say that, that usually means the game hasn't been properly tested on that graphics card, so they look at the performance on a graphics card that's slightly weaker.

I looked on the extended gaming list and it looks like it can play The Witcher 2 on low graphics setting fluently, and 27fps average at medium settings. After that it gets to be unplayable (15fps on high, which isn't ~too~ bad, but it won't look pretty).

Chances are the ones that say "not playable with a weaker graphics card" can be played on low settings at the very least.

Cool, cool. As long as I can get decent FPS at low I am perfectly happy to be able to just play it.

to tell you the truth it really depends on what computer you own and what games are you going to play. I own a Macbook pro and i play TF2, Civilization 5, L4D 1&2. its runs great. If you looking to play games like BF3 you better off with a home computer, because the laptops that can run a game like BF3 are expensive. I believe in the price range of +$1,000 dollars.

I understand where you're coming from, and if getting a desktop was an option than I would totally get a desktop! But I need this for college, so it needs to be portable. I was just seeing how much gaming I could get out of a $700 laptop. From what I researched though the laptop I was thinking of getting said it could play BF3 at medium with no problem, but maybe I'm just naive. And even if I can't play graphically intensive games, I'll be fine with being able to play some of the less intense games (Civilization 5 looks freaking awesome!).
