I just bought the comic......and sadly I am now griped by the balls in intrigue.

Now I want to see where this potentially stupid and heretical crossover event is gonna lead to.

Now I never read much of the New 52 or Rebirth Comics but I do know Flashpoint after seeing the movie of it so here I go with Spoilers:

So Batman has the Bloody Button of the Comedian and this Golden Mask that I think belongs to Doctor Fate (remember I never read past comics so I have no idea why Batman has this mask) light started to flicker between the Mask and the Button and than Batman sees Flashpoint Thomas Wayne Batman for but the briefest of moments then vanishes, than Bruce proceeds to contact The Flash over the event but than suddenly Reverse Flash came in to crash the party, I don't know the motivations but obviously he came to for the button and to get whatever vengence he wanted against Batman, after a suprisingly bloody and brutal fight Reverse Flash one out and grabbed the Button wondering what is it than he vanish in a Blue Flash of Light than returns all bloody and gory, you can see his bones like as if he suffered severe radiation. Than he claims he saw "God" and proceeds than to melt into a Skeleton. Hero Flash arrives to see the aftermath and the issue concludes"

Ok so did anyone else read this to fill in the blanks because again I never read most of the Rebirth comics or the New 52 at all.

I cannot wait for this wildly entertaining arc to get into full swing.

Given the general perception of DC's comics since 2011, I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not.

OT: I can't fill in the blanks because I haven't caught up on any comics in the past five or six months, but by that same token I can say that it sounds like if there's any context to be given for the events here, most of it has been established since Rebirth started. Probably safe to say that most of it revolves around Flash and/or Dr. Manhattan, though.

Well I can fill one blank for you.

The gold mask belongs to Psycho Pirate not Doctor Fate (Batman says so in this issue) who has featured prominently in the Batman Rebirth series. Here is a brief rundown minus a few details...

- Hugo Strange releases Psycho Pirate from Arkham and trades him to Bane in exchange for venom with which to create giant monsters.
- Batman goes after Bane with a team of Arkham inmates to capture the Pirate and bring him back to Gotham. He succeeds.
- Bane returns to Gotham to get revenge on Batman for stealing the Pirate from him. He fails.
- Now here we are...

I don't know what the significance of the Pirate is to the Watchmen button though at a guess I would it is due to him genetally being a character that exists outside of typical comic continuity in that he probably remembers the earlier DC continuity before Flashpoint and the New 52.

Personally I don't care about any supposed claims of "sacrilege" this book is bound to incite, they can do what they like Watchmen and Alan Moore be damned.

Truthfully though the most interesting I find about this book is that it is a crossover primarily focused just around Batman and The Flash, which is an unconventional team up to say the least, certainly different from the typical Justice League or Batman/Superman crossovers we would normally see with an event as hyped as this.

So far I feel its only going to incorporate Doctor Manhatten because I don't know how charcaters like Rorshach, Nite Owl, Ozy, Silk Spectre, and the Comedian fit in all of this?

Both! Crossovers are always interesting even if just by being something different.

But I was also being sarcastic given that the diehard DC fans are already crying about this, before it even starts, so there will be entertainment to be had from the sidelines.

I can't wait to see where this is going.

I think it's time fandom stopped riding Alan Moore's dick. I don't care how much he looks like Jesus, his every product isn't absolute gospel and shouldn't be held like some sort of sacred text never to be tampered with... especially since Watchmen itself is derivative of other peoples' creations.

Fair points. I meant more in the way of said DC fans, myself, since people were already whining about Watchmen bleeding into mainstream DC back when Rebirth first started, and as a whole people have been pretty sour about the New 52 (personally I'm rather a fan of it, but then I never was much of a comic reader beforehand).

Can you imagine the bad things that could happen from putting Psycho Pirate in the same room as Dr Manhattan? That could very well be the setup to this. Especially seperated from his mask, meaning he can't turn it off. I could see him being awed at Manhattan, and then that influencing Manhattan to develop a god complex.

I thought Batman's fight with the Reverse Flash from the Flashpoint universe was awesome. Obviously Batman loses BADLY but he was only stalling for time while he waited for Barry to arrive. Some of those dialogue bubbles obviously couldn't have been said in less than a second, but that's a minor quibble.

I have not been a huge fan of the Batman run of Rebirth so far, and was even considering cancelling my subscription to it but after seeing the crossover was coming up I had to stick with it a bit longer. I love the Flash run so far though. Actually I love all of the comics I've read except for some specific parts of Superman and most of Batman. Rebirth has been going great so far.

I also have no special love for Watchmen, so involving them in the Universe as a not-so-subtle way of saying "we're done trying to copy Watchmen" is a good move, I think. The only people who hate it are people who don't read comics anyway, judging by this thread. So fuck it.

There's a mysterious character that's appeared in the recent Superman comics named Mr Oz that a few people speculate could be Ozymandias, he was introduced by Geoff John's who set off all this Watchmen stuff.

I wonder whether they'll reference the original character inspirations for the Watchmen characters like the Question, Blue Beetle and Captain Atom.

I still have no idea where they are going this. Everyone thought Dr Manhattan was the big bad, and this issue kinda supported that, but we have already seen that characters with the scythe who seems to be controlling things behind the scenes.

But can I just say I love the art of this issue? Its like Jim Lee's shtick with thicker lines and better coloring.

I agree on all parts. I know we've talked about how meh Bats is lately in Rebirth , but it seems everything has been turned upside-down lately. Batman is heating up and improving, the Bane arc was not vey original but still fun and had that amazing art. I'm interested in seeing what will happen to Gotham Girl. On the other hand, Detective Comics has kind of devolved to "Batman gets fucked again". I'm all for letting him be vulnerable and have flaws, but he is literally everyone's *****. Orphan, Shiva, Ra's, Batwoman, the Colony soldiers, etc. He seems really incompetent lately. I guess you could argue that Tim's death has really affected him, but eh. Speaking of Tim, glad to have the real Tim Drake back. He was such a douche in the New 52, and every time he shows up in that weird prison thing I get excited.

I doubt if Comedian or Rorschach are in it since you know, they're dead.

Even if I still think this is a dumb idea, the Batman issue was pretty good. Then again I'm loving his Rebirth run thanks to Tom King's stellar writing.

Every time Batman and Catwoman called each other "Bat" and "Cat" I wanted to eat that page. They said it like 4000 times. UGH. Not to mention Bane, who I usually am a fan of. He beats Robin, Red Hood, AND NIGHTWING, all off panel, and HANGS THEM. What the fuck, why not completely discredit the skills of three important characters? Fuck it! Why not have Bane break out of ice that Mr. Freeze calculated to be far more than Bane could ever break out of and only justify it with "because he's Bane" (literally, that's all we get). And then after Bane steamrolls basically the entire Batman roster, why not have Batman beat him by headbutting him and punching him a few times? Just because he's Batman!

Jesus that whole story was so poorly executed. And I really liked the Gotham and Gotham Girl stuff before it, minus Gotham somehow beating the entire Justice League off-panel. I guess that's a pattern: when King decides he wants to show how badass a character is but can't figure out how to logically portray them beating tough opponents, they just do it off-panel. Solid writing, that.
