What Souls game will you be playing, if any? I just might boot up Demon?s and do some reminiscing.

I actually played a video game for the first time in a month today, and it was Dark Souls. Me and the girlfriend had about 30 min to kill so I fired up Dark Souls 1 and told her to watch me die for 30 minutes. I was stuck on the Stray demon at the demon ruins when I last played, so I thought I'd get fucked again, but I ended up beating it my third try. I then went on to beat the centipede thing on my second try. I had finally got to that zen-like Dark Souls zone, it sucked that I had such a short time in it

I stopped playing Dark Souls 2 a while ago. I tried to get into, I really did, but it just doesn?t grab me like Dark Souls 1 does. I?ll go back to it eventually, I?m sure, but I went back to DS1. I played through multiple NG+?s with my first character and realized a few days ago, ?idiot, you can start a NEW character!? So I did; this time MUCH wiser, so going for a more focused build (DEX this time.) It?s amazing how, even after a half-dozen playthroughs, this game still gets me! I killed the Capra Demon with a NG character for the first time in nearly a year yesterday morning, and it felt just as incredible as it did the first time. Perfecting that initial dodge to the left, making it to the stairs and kiting the dogs until it was just me and Capra, the first time he was a real threat in forever; I took him down and was on a high for the next few hours, literally whistling in line at Starbucks.

Ha! I?ve got about 15-20 minutes each morning to play (depending on when my girlfriend?s bratty-ass son leaves for the bus,) and that?s when I?ve been getting my DS1 fix: the clock says 7:16am, I play for 10 minutes, then the clock say 8:04am; I KNOW that Zen-like Dark Souls zone all too well! XD

Yeah i started a no-shield run a few months ago when I had some more time, and spent maybe 75% of the time getting stomped and 25% in the zone where I dodge perfectly and I nail every parry. Now that I play in 20 minute bursts I can usually stay in that zone for the entire playtime.

Ummm...maybe some Bloodborne? See if I can find out what the fuck is going on and why I should care...
Do you mean that in terms of the story itself--which is bonkers to say the least--or gameplay and where to go? Because I can break it all down for you if you really want to know.

Anyway, if my friend is actually free, we might play Dark Souls for a bit today. He just beat it last week and now we're doing our second playthrough to get the final trophies for him. It's been amusing playing with someone who has no idea how these games work or knows anything about the story.

Storywise. Gameplay wise I just keep going until I find a boss. Its fairly linear, in that there's always a path.
But story wise, I'm so lost. There's blood, and its evil - unless its good, and people want you to stop the evil blood, unless they like the evil blood, or are insane, or are a good vampire, or maybe just a misunderstood Hunter, and there are space aliens, and someone wants to molest their wet-nurse, and then someone turns on the mood lights...

Not playing any Souls games today.

...I spent half the year playing through the entire series. Then I replayed Bloodborne for some reason.

I kinda wish that I skipped Dark Souls 2, though. It took as long as Bloodborne and DS1 combined, but was not nearly as rewarding as either

One of the two bosses that I used summons for. You can guess what the other one was.

Short version:

Long, long, loooooong time ago there was a race of beings that somehow managed to ascend to a higher state of being. Not entirely sure how--possibly through blood rituals, maybe something from space, or maybe it was just in their DNA. Anyway, this race turned into what the game calls The Great Ones. Most left the world, either physically or be going into a different realm.
Next came the race of Pthumerians, the beings you find in the Chalice Dungeons. They tried to copy what The Great Ones did in hopes of ascending, but it wasn't working. So they turned to using the blood of The Great Ones--either ones that were left behind, or bodies that they found, or ones they were able to call using rituals. However, stuff went wrong. Very wrong, resulting in them mutating into horrible monsters and driving them mad, thus causing their civilization of collapse.
Finally along came humans. They stumbled across proof that there were The Great Ones and, just like the Pthumerians, wanted to ascend. At first they thought they could do this just through study, then they figured out that The Blood of The Great Ones seemed to help, so they started using that instead. This caused a split among the scholars, with some saying that the Blood was dangerous and shouldn't be used, while others said it was fine.

Obviously the Blood is not fine, as using it too much warps a human into a crazed monster. The Church--the faction that wants to keep using the Blood--knows this, and blames the beast disease on something else, thus tricking people into believing that The Blood is still safe to use. Now you can imagine what happens when an entire city keeps using something that is slowly destroying them.
This is where you come in. Your character is sick, and the only way to save your life is getting hold of this special Blood that only Yharnam has. You go there, but it's clear that this place is on its last legs and you've stumbled into something much bigger than just a cure. What you choose to do--become trapped to serve The Moon Presence, flee the city, or do what no one before you has done and Ascend--all depends on what you do in the game.

There's a lot more to all of it, but that's the short version: Blood is bad, but it gives power so people kept using it until it destroys the society. There are other ways to attain The Great Ones' power, but it usually ends up driving a person insane.

Finished Bloodborne and its DLC yesterday and was glad it was over. Not a bad game but just like Dark Souls it outstayed its welcome a bit to much for me. Demons is still my favourite by far just falt like they were trying a lot of crazy ideas in that game to find out what worked with Dark and Bloodborne feels like they dont have that same creativity especially Bloodborne still as a fan of Lovecraft I did enjoy the world even if the story itself is pretty bad but the games have always thrived off of hiding a basic premise for a story and providing clues to it throughout the world so it was to be expected even if it is wearing a bit thin.

Tough fight. One tip is to time it so you have a mostly full stamina bar when the little dude gets knocked off. That way you can unload as much damage on him as possible during the window, which shortens the fight. During the rest of the fight, don't get greedy. 1-2 hits at most, then be ready to dodge.

Regarding OP, I spent most of the past year playing and replaying DS1-3. I think I finally hit a wall with them, and I'm taking a long break. So I won't be partaking today. Amazing games, though.

I've bought every single souls (Even Bloodborne) game except Demon Souls but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the series tbh, I only enjoy the challenge to some degree.
