Speaking as someone who's lived in Nevada for nearly a decade, I have to say I love the attention to detail that Obsidian put into the writing in the latest Fallout game. Never mind the bugs or the monster-spawning layout that makes you wish for Bethesda's leveled enemies system (the Deathclaws in Primm Pass and the Cazadors north of Goodsprings jump immediately to mind). There's some really clever stuff in here.
Like the town of Searchlight (Sen. Harry Reid's hometown) being a heavily irradiated glowing wasteland full of mindless feral ghouls who used to be part of the NCR army (there's a political statement in that but I'll be damned if I can figure out what it is). Or the fact that Caesar's Legion pronounces their Latin properly in the Roman (rather than medieval Church Latin) style. Or even the fact that the little unincorporated communities around Primm and Las Vegas are, in the main, properly named (Goodsprings, Jean, Nelson, Sloan, etc.) Except for Novac, which is just a clever pun.
This in turn makes me think of just how much Fallout 2 made homage to Reno---New Reno looks better than this city I've less-than-affectionately dubbed "The Wasteland" since the economy went to hell a couple years back.
For Discussion: Any long-time Southern Nevadans want to point out other points of interest in FNV that have real-world equivalents remarkably like the game? Or people from other cities want to comment on how close games set in their towns have come to getting it right?
