Does somebody else use your computer who may have deleted your local playlists and library?

The cloud symbol means they are not on that system, but you do own them, so re-purchasing is not needed.

Two things I'd check first:

- Recycle Bin, in case they were accidentally deleted.
- Try searching for the music using the the start menu, it is possible that they were not deleted, but were moved and so iTunes cannot find them any more.

Beyond that, I am not really sure what else you can do, except try and find them on the system any way that you can.

EDIT: Huh, just got home from work and mine is exactly the same. I doubt that is a coincidence. Stupid Apple.

I have just dragged my itunes folder (In Music) into the program and it restored them. I don't have playlists though.

I had the same issue once years ago...I believe it's a known problem that nobody gives a shit about fixing. Go to your iTunes folder (by default it appears in your My Music folder on Windows, don't recall where on Mac) and check if you've got any previous iTunes libraries. If not you'll just have to add your iTunes media folder and it should rediscover all of your songs, though you will have lost your playlists unless you can recover them from an iSomething.

yeah i tried restoring my playlists but the file had default looking ones.

Is there a way in itunes to search for media? i have songs etc in a few different locations depending on when and how i got them. cds vs digital

File->Add folder is probably your best bet. You could select your entire drive but you'll probably end up with a lot of guff so just add the few folders you've got music stored in.
