During a chat with my mom while she visited me at work one night a few weeks ago, she suggested various career paths she thinks i would be good at. while my current workplace is no where near as bad as it was last time i was here (full time at a fast food joint) i do agree that i really dont feel like staying here forever. she suggested i look into something i like to do. Well it hit me that i do enjoy writing fiction specifically sci-fi and fantasy. So, my question is this: does anyone here know how i could go about that? Any help would be greatly appreciated doods!

If you like to do something and want to become better at it just keep doing it until you're there. :)
I'd write stories like mad and send the best of them to various amateur writer websites or your local newspaper. As a teenie i used to draw things from my hometown and sold them to our newspaper. Some of them were printed.

I've suggested it in another thread, but I highly recommend The Art of War for Writers, by James Scott Bell. It taught me a lot about writing and having to deal with publishers and agents. Even if you're not a writer, it's a really good book.

Also, if you love to write, why not trying to get a teaching certificate or a creative writing degree?

But yeah, if you love to write, write some stuff and send it in to magazines/websites/anything. Show yourself and even if you're rejected, you have to not let if phase you or get you down. You just try again. Write everyday, and maybe set an amount of words per week to keep it a goal and to keep you writing (I tried this and I wrote a whole lot, but then I stopped because of college and depression).

If you want to write, then write.
