I was just wondering if anyone has one
Is it worth doing?
I just don't want to end up with a 200$ paperweight
*Edit*
For clarity I already have the Ipod Touch
Just wondering if I should Jailbreak it

In my opinion, it's not a good idea, because who the hell wants Linux on their iPod touch!

No. For fifty bucks more you can get a 120gb iPod. Cons of this deal? Tiny, tiny screen, no "touch" capablity. Pros? Well, let's put it this way, for all it's bells and whistles, Apple's dirty little secret is that the fucking thing only has 30gb of storage.

Now, let's do the math.
$200 for shiny bells and whistles, a measly 30 gigs storage
$250 for next gen (6th, I think?) trusty "brick" (thickness now reduced by half, that's right the spanking new 120 gig is about as thick as last gen's 20 gig), 120 gig storage...so for fifty bucks more you get four times the capacity...

EDIT: After reading that I seem to come off as overly snarky, and I aplogize...I did, however, just finish watching a Yahtzee video, so I hope you can forgive me.

I didn't bother jailbreaking it. All the friends at my shcool though, and from what I can tell, all it seems to do is just give you games that the App Store doesn't have. (Obviously I could be wrong, but like I said, I didn't jailbreak it.)

I have nine pages of Apps (Almost all of them are free) and I'm perfectly fine with it.

IS this having a go at the 360? 'Cos I don't get what you're saying.
No, no...it seems in my hurry to save someone from buying a touch, I somehow missed the whole jailbreaking thing...Hasty McHasterson over here...

Anyway, Jailbreaking the thing is fine, so long as you do it properly...it's just like unlocking a cell phone, if it's done right, no biggie, but if you fuck up...well, like Palpatine said in Robot Chicken Star Wars Episode II, "No, don't try, there is no try, there's do and there's fucking up big, and you're fucking up big." Do your research, know what you're getting into, and make an informed decision.

But if you drop the 120 GB iPod, you can scratch the hard drive and render it unusable.

Well I have jailbroken two iPod touches and one 3G iPhone. They all work perfectly, and if you do it correctly, if anything goes wrong, you can just reset your firmware. It is really simple actually, I say you do it. But make sure you know what you are doing.

Duh. I'd think for the amount of money someone would spend on the thing, they'd be careful with it. Mine only leaves the trusty man-purse to get plugged into the car cradle, the iHome or laid flat on my desk to update.

Makes me wonder how many people are out there playing hack with their iPods...

Yes. I said man-purse. The thing is a technical marvel, and there's a decent chance I love it more than my dog.

I'm pretty sure you have to chuck one of those classics at a wall to break it, mines covered in dints.
My old 80 gig looks like it survived a week in Sarajevo in the ninties, what Uberjoe is talking about in the new, new ones...they're a bit more delicate than the old ones, but like I said, a little extra care is all that's really needed.

Mine is a new iPod, I slammed it in a door and the whole thing is deformed slightly, it has a fold line in it.

Hold on for about 10 minutes or more. I just found my old mini and that is dented slightly too.

EDIT: I left my iPod in my Mum's car so I will not be able to show you for about 12 hours.

So basically... If I can steer this thread back on topic...
Just upgrade to the 2.2 firmware and DL the free apps?
