I'm by no means a weeaboo/wapanese. But I enjoy rock/metal from other countries, and despite the fact that it's now hackneyed to like Japanese music, they're no different. I like bands like Do As Infinty (who are getting back together. WOOT!), L'arc~en~Ciel, Dir En Grey, and Concerto Moon...to some degree. They feel a little like unfocused Dragonforce at times, but what can you do? Talk about some other Japanese bands, or your opinion on Japanese music in general.

EDIT: I meant Concerto Moon feels like unfocused Dragonforce. Thought the wording might be confusing.

I enjoy bands such as Guitar Wolf (rock and roll!!!!), Tomoyasu Hotei (who should be in the top 10 guitarists...but since he is japanese.....) and Ayumi Hamasaki

I do listen to L'arc~en~Ciel, but in my opinion they only have a few great songs (out of the 110 songs I have from them, about 20 odd are awesome, a few more are good of course)

Oh I forgot to mention good old Orange Range :-D making rap enjoyable for everyone ;-)

Orange Range is decent, but when I listen to rap, it's normally of the horrorcore variety. And no, horrorcore does not begin and end with ICP. But enough about that. Oh, and though she's South Korean, she sings in Japanese in some of her songs: BoA. Campy, but her blend of disco/r&b/pop influences are interesting.

I'm not a weeaboo or wapanese, more of a Japanophile. I've always loved Japanese music, from traditional to Jpop/rock. I'm a big fan of Dustz [http://dustz.jp/] and 403 Forbiddena. Granted I came across the latter via Nightmare City [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdFijT11Cao]. Sitll the most kickass pointless animation ever.

I am a huge fan of Maximum The Hormone, the guys who did the opening and ending themes for the second season of 'Death Note'. Their new song 'Tsume Tsume Tsume' is brilliant.

I watch a bit of anime, so I'll come across quite a few Japanese songs. The ones I like, I'll get one way or another. Though, a few artists stand out, like Utada Hikaru (though, that's more becuase of Kingdom Hearts), Orange Range, UVERworld, Aqua Timez, Asian Kung-Fu Generation and some I can't think of now.

I really liked 'Zetsubou Billy' (from Death Note), so I might look into that. Thanks.

Edit: I forgot about this, but hearing 'Tsume Tsume Tsume' reminded me of it: I love their use of that female singer. The contrast makes the song a lot better in my eyes. I loved it in 'Zetsubou Billy'.

I have always herd from Japan music that either was
A) Heavily influenced by western music tastes,
B) Exceedingly upbeat to the point that the speakers shriek at the sight of it, or
C) All the bandmates were women and/or men looking like women.

I also find it slightly repulsive that any band anyone stateside has ever herd from Japan has been in Animu or was the next stepping stone in a series of unfortunate events. As a comparison, Indian music, while the beat of the music is more emphasized and the music has a big dollop of rap in it has remained strictly Indian in the sense that the beats and instruments in the pop songs are traditional Indian instruments. Japan after WWII was assimilated into western culture to the point that traditional ways and music were completely phased out by Animu and Bad rock 'n roll.
