This has happened to me a couple of times playing all of these online games from "StarCraft" to "Counter-strike" and "Modern Warfare 2". It sucks to die, and to lose, but the key is to have fun. I've been placed beside, let's go out on a limb and say; poor players, but this only gives me the oppertunity to shine. Players, at least in FPS, gets more couragious to see a fearless captain stepping forward and leading the way.

I remember when I started playing StarCraft when it was new. I sucked online because it was my first encounter with online gaming, and I was unaware of rushing-tactics and different strategies.

There is another thing which is worse: when players are totally unserious and ruins the game for you. Suddenly turning on you, stealing your resources, killing your units, standing in the way and just acting like a fool.

BTW: Eggsnham, what is your avatar? It's funny.

This used to happen to me all the time in Halo 3. I'm nothing special when it comes to FPS games, but amazingly, I always managed to get teamed up with people who were somehow even worse than I was. I'm talking "standing out in the open while I reload/running into a firefight without switching to a fresh clip/putting my team at risk so I can go for the map's power weapons" level stupidity here.

Occasionally, the tables would turn and I'd end up on a team that wasn't quite so bad, but had one very vocal member who was complaining about how everyone else sucked. Of course, that meant I'd go out of my way to kill him. Drive the Warthog, let him take the turret, then drive off a cliff.

Happens all the time in TF2.

I can usually spot this team early on based on what they're doing.
For example:
Engineer is busy building a level 3 teleporter instead of going to build a sentry to defend.
Engineer is building his sentry in a distant corner that has no strategic value, can be easily destroyed by a few explosions and will generally see very little traffic. And of course, he has his port there and 75% of the team is camping that corner with him.

Medic is running around shooting needles and generally getting owned while his teammates are dying painful, horrible deaths.

Soldiers are incapable of firing rockets while moving forward. Every time they fire a rocket, they take a step(or several steps) backwards.

The entire team runs away from or chases after 1 Scout, or a single Spy.

Nobody bothers standing on the point. There are no enemies around, we managed to push them back momentarily, but everyone is avoiding the point like they could catch something from it, nor are they making any effort to attack the heavy+medic combo sitting nearby building their uber. This usually ends with the entire team being mowed down by said combo and me being left alone to defend.

Nobody is making any effort to push forward. The entire team is camping.

There are 7 spies/snipers on a 12 player team and none of them has killed anything in the last 10 minutes.
Don't get me started on 2Fort Sniper Wars.
The easiest map to figure out if you have a bad team is Badwater. If you can't rush the rooftop, your team is completely screwed. Badwater is set up so that, if your team isn't perfectly coordinated, you are going to die a lot.

And, if your team is incapable of defending Goldrush Phase 2, you simply suck at the game.

Bad Company 2 demo, pretty much every team I was on was completely rubbish, I can't believe it actually. And then we've got LoL, EVERY SINGLE TEAM I'VE BEEN ON SUCKS! D:
/rage

A little oftopic:
And then we've got in games like GRID, where everyone seems to think of the races as destruction derby's, ruining the racing experience. :(

i've played with so many noobs on TF2. for example there was a medic healing an obvious spy, and then ubercharged him. even when he started killing team members he didn't stop healing.

Most of the time on Halo 3 I get 13 kills and 4 or so deaths while my team is struggling to stay neutral. There are times when I do terrible, and I hate to sound like a rabid "I'M BEST PLAYER MAP BLOWS" but some maps I'm horrible at. (Mostly the bigger maps where I have no strategy.

Sometimes yes. When it happens, I tend to play as a sniper or something like that, so I'm basically working by myself.

I find the only game it completely fucks you up in if your team is a stupid bunch of tossers is Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, as survivors. If you're playing on expert or realism, even one person not pulling their weight is a death sentence. That's why I usually play with friends.
this. agreed on both parts

most games if that happens, i just turn into a sniper in the background

on l4d...well...you are SOL

...what? o_O

I've experienced a player (not spy) on my own team following me around on 2fort doing nothing for 10 minutes though, he was a good cover for bullets and flames though.

As a medic, I get pissed when people start spamming the MEDIC! shout. I get there and.... They're fine. Seriously, just because your a heavy doesnt mean I'll heal you. Let me heal the people who freaking need it.

Or the infamous non sapping spies on Payload offence. Seriously, just sap the sent and tell us so we'll finish it off AS A TEAM.

Yeah, I just came from a game of TF2. There was basically an open route to the control point, but two thirds of the team insisted on attacking a narrow tunnel with 3 sentries in it. And when I pointed out (repeatedly) that we could just attack the CP straight, one einstein replied "Why? I already destroyed two sentries".

It also bugs me when people don't kill the obvious spies. Like the slow scouts, or when a spy is slapping sappers on a building on one side and the engineer is taking them off on the other side and a pyro just walks past the scene.

My vote, a classic that was seared in my mind, Warcraft III, I had a moron for a teammate, I'm pretty sure this idiot just bought the game and figured he was awesome enough to jump right into online play. Anyway, we start off the match, and the first thing he asks is "why can't I build more peons?" Shocked with awe at he fact he was a total noob and must have picked the Orcs on the basis they are green and muscular so they=best. After instructing him on some basics, I questioned if he was a noob (using the kinder phrasing of "are you new to the game?"), and like a arrogant fool denied it up and down. Ignoring that I went back to combat, I was T2 with the humans, and had damaged the red undead's army and was pushing the purple one. I told him to come help me kill purple as I was weak from fighting red, but he said he knew what he was doing and went creeping. Then it seemed red knew what he was doing as he attacked the orcs base, and he panicked teleporting back to his base, while red teleported to purple, so I got screwed and had to retreat. With that, I set to setting up some flash fortifications because I was the clear target, so I asked him to be on standby for they attack, but instead he went to attack purples base. Despite telling him they had more to gain than lose, he went anyway. He killed purples base, they killed me, and they split up to deal with his army and his base, and succeded, but none of that pissed me off as much as the fact that he blamed me for the loss.

I was playing TD on MW2 on Sunday. Just to note, I suck at this game. Big time.

Basically, three of my teams players were inactive, standing at their spawn points. My puny level 17 ass got whooped.

Haven't we all?

I left a match, went in a new one.
Same people.
Left that match, went to a new one.
Same fucking match!
That happens all the time in L4D2 when playing with Pubbies. That's why I always play with 2 or more friends, so we even if we have 1 really bad player on our team, we can just kick him and get a new on.

Moral of the story: Always play L4D2 with friends and never with pubbies.

I don't take games too seriously, I just try to have fun with it. I do the best I can, and if I lose, well, it happens. I usually assume the other people I am playing with are trying to win as well, so if they aren't doing well, it's really not a big deal.

That Is why I make my team before hand and wait for everyone to play because I only group with friends most the time anyway.

But from Battlefield 2 I feel your pain
