Mass Effect 3 And The Case For A Gay Shepard

Apparently last week's episode of Jimquisition was far too subtle for some folk, and it threw up a lot more questions than answers. It also sparked a debate in which some of the dumbest arguments against the inclusion of a gay game protagonist were ever heard.

Fortunately, Jim Sterling is the national authority on doing kissing with men, and lends his razor-sharp insight to this discussion for the final, righteous time.

Homosexuality exists in over 450 animal species. Homophobia exists in only one. Which one seems more unnatural now?

People need to grow up.

Awesome funny video, great points. I wonder if shoving the rubber cock-bat in your mouth was necessary, but it made me go ha-ha none the less.

seriously kids. If you are offended by an option to make a fictional character gay in game. you should not play that game at all. we had this discussion with Dragon Age 2 already!

Even after I saw the description I thought of this: "I don't mind it as an option I have nothing against homosexuality, even less so in a game." And it still stands after watching the video.

I try to keep an open mind and perspective.

Now let's just hope that half the dimwits who make those excuses won't fall into a homosexual relationship without realizing it and then Fox News comes on board to completely degrade this subject into stupidity.

PS: Pretty sure that's gonna happen.

Can't believe people didn't get it last time. Though I'm not going to lie Jim, it was pretty hard to listen to, but still thanks. I have a few gay family members, mail and female, and I'm sick of people always saying such shit about gay people. So thanks for telling those people off.

Trust me, it was necessary.

I really needed to do it.

Good for you Jim. The people complaining about the option for OTHER PEOPLE to persue a fictional relationship in a video game are just like the people complaining about the Archie comic with the gay wedding. Putting it on a store shelf isn't intrusive or oppressive. I can understand why people might be bothered by human-alien sex. The game developers point out some of the issues within the game, but homophobes just don't have any justification for their argument. I don't see agoraphobics complaining about multiplayer in games.

If that's what you want to do that's fine. It would have been nice to have a disclaimer to warn us viewers. I'm libertarian about it. As long as your not forcibly raping someone, stealing from someone, hurting someone (unwillingly), and/or killing someone I don't care. But just give me a heads up that your doing something that might offend.

P.S. I will probably still watch but the heads up will still be nice.

It could be considered too subtle because a lot of people here aren't the most intelligent people on the internet. You could have put a big flashing "THIS IS SARCASM" label for the duration of the video and it still would have been too subtle for some of these people. Of course, you obviously already knew that, so why am I rambling on about it?

Hurray for the return of the dildo bat, and hurray for the continuation of common sense as that seems to be so rare these days.

The only group of people any of these videos might offend are stupid people.

Well, there isn't any butt-hurt in here yet and I'm glad to see that's the case. Great vid, Jim, it's a shame that this still needs to be discussed every time this comes up, but, there's no better way to put homophobic idiots in their place than with a big floppy dick.

I agree it had no problem for my in DA2, i didn't pick it. The options were there but i didn't pick them, simple. But i didn't see the pedo-Shepard on the forum. I not going looking because god damn, if that is what people are using as an argument (i do fear for the world).

Boom. Headshot.

Well said, Jim. VERY well said.

Having it as an option shouldn't piss anyone off. I mean, that's like saying that you're offended that a PC shooter has an option to invert the X and Y axis.

And while I WAS aware that some adults *glares at the mound of stupidity that is Santorum* still had this gay = pedo mentality, but to see an ESCAPIST member (one that doesn't seem to be the only one I can imagine saying that) saying THAT...That's a little bit upsetting.

I won't be playing a gay shepard in my game, mostly because I don't feel like it. But I'm not going to raise a fuss about it, because why the hell should I?

Based on what I've seen in past videos, like with his chainsaw sword, I'm beginning to wonder if Jim has some special fixation with melee weapons. Not that there's anything wrong with that. A man and his giant purple weaponized dong can be a beautiful thing.
