Then next Prince of Persia was to be set during the time of the third crusade. Only one problem, it wasn?t going to take place in Persia. Only one logical thing to do, create a whole new franchise. Introducing Assassin?s Creed.

First off, the story. It starts off as Desmond Miles is captured by a company called Obstergo. They are looking for an artifact called the ?Apple of Eden.? The location is in Desmond?s memory. Not only do we hold our own memory in our brain, but we also have our ancestors memories locked away in our brain. So they stick him in a machine called the animus so he can relive the memories of his ancestor from the crusades, Altair Ibn La-Ahad. Altair is an assassin. The story is enjoyable and you can tell that there was thought put into it.

Now for the gameplay. The gameplay is unique. There are stealth missions where you have to sneak around to get to your target. There is also a free running mechanic unlike any other game. There are also the assassinations. There are also repetitive missions you must complete in order to kill your targets. These can be fun at first, but they start to drag on after doing the same thing over and over again. You beat up someone for information, pickpocket people for information, eavesdrop on people?s conversations for information. There are also a decent amount of side-missions to complete. Collecting flags in every location in the game, assisting civilians from hostile guards and plenty of viewpoints to synchronize. There is a lot to do in the game and the gameplay can be varied, but mainly at the beginning of the game before it becomes repetitive. There is also a notoriety system that to be honest is very bare-bones. There is also a good combat system. You can use a sword, small blade, hidden blade, throwing knives and your bear hands to kill people. There is also a counter system that explains itself. The combat system is good and a whole lot of fun. The best part of the gameplay.

Now for the design of the game. Since the game is based on actual historical locations and events, the design of the cities should be accurate. The cities are built similarly to the cities they are based on for the most part. Overall I like how the game was designed. Historically accurate in how the maps were built just as promised.

Now for the Graphical and audio presentation. The graphics are well done and rich with detail. Though at times (mainly on PS3) the frame rate can get choppy. For the most part the frame rate is smooth. The music in the game is cliché. Well put together, but sounds like music from other games and forms of entertainment. The voice acting is what steals the show in audio. Every character in the game had great voice acting. Really added to the believability of the characters and made them feel real. One thing that sticks out is the fact that Altair had an American accent. Other than that little nitpick, the voice acting is great.

Things I liked about the game. I liked the story of the game. Taking actual historical people and events and mixing in conspiracy theories just makes the story enjoyable. I liked the assassinations and how (for the most part) it is up to the player to decide how to kill their target. I liked the main protagonist Altair. I liked the good character development that goes on throughout the game. I really liked the setting overall. How you get to interact with everything around you. I liked the voice acting and the graphics. I also liked how there is some replay value with small side missions. I loved the open world, platforming, free running and the combat system. These elements would go on to define Assassin?s Creed.

Things I didn?t like about the game. How the game was structured to where it got repetitive at times. I also wasn?t a big fan of the notoriety system. I hated the beggars and drunks that annoy you as you explore the city.

Overall I think Assassin?s Creed is a great game. It does have its problems, but I think that the good outweighs the bad. Give it a try, but I would recommend a rent first because it?s not for everyone.
