Well, title says it all really. He came out saying he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015. Most well known for his roles in Alien and the Elephant Man. He also had some notable roles in recent years such as Garrick Ollivander in the Harry Potter Films and the War Doctor in the Doctor Who special.

First death of 2017 that I care about. John Hurt was in loads of things that I loved and his declining health has been a tragedy.

That sucks.

He was one of those actors who would apparently sign up for any old shit and then act the absolute hell out of it anyway.

:( Shit. I really loved his work. Every movie I ever saw him in, usually as a support character, I loved him.

My favorite was his role in Contact, god that character was so much fun to watch on screen.

Well, this is a tad embarrassing. There's only one rational response to this.

Really rather sad :( By chance, yesterday I watched Outlander, a fun, if mindless action film. I checked it out in imdb after and just saw this on John Hurt's page :( A good actor but never really the leading man. Still, the silver screen is that little bit dimmer now.

Really sad to see him go. Whatever I seen him in, he acted it with gusto and sold the hell out of the role. In "Nineteen Eighty-Four" in particular I found him to just be the standout aspect. RIP.

...That's depressing. I'm particularly familiar with (and fond of) his performance as the War Doctor, so this kinda stings...

RIP Good Sir.
