******I'm sorry, I tried to search for a Far Cry 4 thread but I got no results. I know its out there somewhere but I cant find it***********

"out of bounds*

The most annoying message ever. I'm on my way to a waypoint and I get this stupid message. It is a way to prevent you from exploring all of the world too early? Its so annoying.

Yeah, the world opens up as you complete story missions and more territory comes under control of golden path. Kind of makes sense though, what fun would the story missions be if you've already seen the entire map? With open-world games like this you need to make atleast some restrictions to maintain a sense of linear progression. Otherwise where is the fun when there are no more surprises?

Btw game is awesome though. :p

Surely that should be entirely up to the player or at least explained in game rather than forcing you artificially? E.G. the bridge to the next area needing repairing, having to get a pass to get through a check point or something.

Except you can swim so a bridge wouldn't work unless there's an oddly placed cliff that just cuts through the Himalayas which would look weird given the maps topography. There's also a helicopter vehicle you get really early on that allows you to fly to pretty much one edge of the map to the other in a couple minutes so any sort of natural game barrier isn't going to work very well.

Sure, but if you can swim, fly, traverse mountains etc. a bridge needing repairing or a checkpoint won't really suffice. :p I agree it's a dilemma though, but I can't really think of any open-world game that solves this elegantly. Either the world is entirely open from the get-go or it slowly 'unlocks' as you progress. I personally prefer the latter.

edit: previous poster beat me to it.

Odd, because I don't remember anything like that happening except for when I tried to enter the north by car before the story took me there. At least the bridge is a logical barrier rather than the invisible wall you got in FC3 if you tried to cross the water too soon. In FC4, I never tried to fly over the bridge early on, so I don't know how that's handled. It's easy to fly over it with the gyrocopter later in the game.

OP, where on the map are you seeing the out-of-bounds message?

Those were just examples. I'm not a game developer. These guys are, they have all sorts of funding and time, and if the best they have is artificial walls then quite frankly that isn't good enough for a game this grand in scale.

The only Out of Bounds messages I remember from Far Cry were when I was doing a mission in a specific area. If you're just in free roam than its pretty much anything goes, with the exception of the the division in the map you unlock through the story. Trying to attack the main bridge will have you killed by enemies and blocked by a gate, and trying to fly over the mountains will simply make the chopper beep explode.

I haven't played the game yet (but I will soon). Is this just like half the map being closed off until halfway through the game, just like 2 and 3? Or is there more to this "out of bounds" message?
When you first star off you are pretty much stuck in a bowl until you do a certain story mission, after which at least half the map becomes open to you. Aside from that it's basically a "return to the designated area" warning.

You can, technically, ignore the warning.
But then you die, badly.

It's also not THAT long till you get there.

The main thing you want to do is get the M79 and one of those helicopters.
Plus upgrading everything you can to max via skins.

Makes the outposts and forts a joke.

Right at the beginning if you try to explore before doing ANY story missions, after the first radio tower, you get this pretty quick. happened to me too, real pain but it goes away almost immediately.

Overall i've enjoyed Far cry 4 aside from the main protagonist and the golden path. Pagan min is such a better character. Ajay is so fucking white bread, he just sort of goes along with everything without having any personality of his own, he's a human seagull. Jason in 3 went from being a fratboy ahole adrenalin junky to a murderous sociopath. it was awsome to watch it unfold. I havn't finished it yet but Ajay still doesn't have any enthusiasm for what's going on. He's also shown a startling lack of initiative with taking drugs. He gets drugged alot, but it's always against his will. either start taking some initiative or wise up and stop letting people drug you all the damn time.

Well it removes alternative routes to a waypoint. I find driving a veichle boring, and I love to climb mountains and move more in a crows line. It worked in FC3.

In the very beginning. The area around Banapur (I think its called)

As Fijiman said above, you ARE stuck in a small area until the story has you liberate your first outpost. It's less than two hours into the game, which includes the time it took for the opening sequences and the tutorial. Unless, of course, you're like me and you explore everything before progressing. ;)

If that's what you're doing, just stop and do the first couple of story missions. The entire lower half of the map will open up to you in no time flat.
