I'm going to start this topic by getting the elephant out of the room right away. I...liked the original Kane and Lynch. I will be the first to admit it had a multitude of flaws, poor shooting mechanics, bad online matchmaking, and that whole jungle part of the single player to just to name a few. However, I truly believe under all those flaws, and even the baffling choice to not include an online Co-Op, lurked a good game.
This belief comes mostly from the characters, overall plot and feel of the game, and the incredible Fragile Alliance mode. Kane and Lynch themselves where two of the most memorable characters I've played, and despite being cast as the psychopath and ex-merc pulled out of retirement to save his daughter cliches they somehow avoided becoming one dimensional. As for the setting I defy anyone to play one of K&L's urban levels and not feel like a badass out of the movie Heat. The development team really nailed the criminal experience, especially with the bank robbery level that was practically a homage to aforementioned movie. Lastly there was the Fragile Alliance mode. The level of tension this game mode brings has yet to be matched by any other shooting based multiplayer in my opinion. Fighting through waves of npcs as a team only to watch as those team bonds start to dissolve as the money counter rises. Sadly, K&L was another one of those games whose gameplay didn't live up to the potential of the game's premise.
So imagine my surprise and happiness when a sequel was announced, and looking at the preview videos it looks like they are really listening to the complaints that fans had of the first one. So I'm hoping for what I call the "AC2 Treatment," Assassin's Creed was another game that I loved the premise and atmosphere the game provided, but sadly repetitive gameplay really hurt what could have been an amazing gaming experience. Then AC2 hits the streets, almost entirely rebuilt from the ground up, and finally the developers' ideas and actual gameplay met to form an awesome ride.
So now for the point of this mass of text. If K&L Dog Days truly does get the AC2 Treatment, would you be willing to give the game another shot? Or are first impressions everything?
