How odd. Is it maybe the result of using a different language translation of Firefox than the region your keyboard was made for? That's the only thing I can possibly think of.

Otherwise, maybe update your Firefox? Maybe check the drivers for your keyboard? Those are my only guesses, really, I'm completely baffled as to why this would happen.

no firefox uses windows regional settings, there's no special mapping

i'm calling shenanigans here. if this is a mapping issue it happens across the board not just in one program.

the different languages for firefox you can download are just translations, not differently mapped keyboard layouts.

to change the keyboard mapping in xp is REALLY hard, i had to switch it one day and it wasn't easy

That happens when you have an English keyboard and you have it set up for American software (or vice-versa). You'll probably find the "£" and "$" symbols are in the wrong place. You can probably change the settings somewhere, but unhelpfully, I can't remember where - try googling it I guess.

Language settings in Firefox, set to English (UK). You must have it set to English (US).

your keyboard defaulted to the american settings, or european. Anyway in control pannel it should be under keyboard or hardware or something, and under langauges set it to English(US) or something along those lines.
