Now, I'm just sitting here listening to BBC Radio 4 (yes, I have no life) and You and Yours consumer advice is currently on and what has just been on is quite alarming.

There are apparently a significant number of Xbox 360s in the UK that have been getting the Red Ring of Death after many years of use only after the Kinect peripheral has been attached, installed/updated and lightly used.

Considering Kinect was selling like hot cakes, I myself saw shortages in an HMV, over the Christmas period this is a serious issue and so far Microsoft hasn't offered any warranty for Kinect or extensions for existing Xbox 360 units.

Has this effected you? And what do you think of the lack of support for people with older Xbox's? Microsoft states that Kinect is designed and intended for use with every existing Xbox 360 out there.

Personally, I never intended to get it because of the very high costs (for the unit and games) but also the lack of space in my house but now I want it even less if it's going to kill my 360.

The issue has been reported in the Xbox 360 Classic, Xbox 360 Pro but I don't know about the Xbox 360 'Slim'.

well, I'm not going to bother buying the Kinect for two reasons:

1. It's a waste of money

2. I don't really need one. Nor do I want one.

So until my 360 decides to derp on me, I'm guessing it's fair to say that I won't be putting money into Bill Gates' pocket any time soon.

My brother's is working fine last time I heard (as he only recently got the kinect as well)

Likelihood is that it's only a coincidence, though it is unsettling.

"Take that advice with a pinch of salt" ;3

I know that it's probably just a small number but if it's still breaking them then that's gotta be annoying...which is the most polite way I can say that :p

Microsoft is notorious at taking forever in returning Xbox's when they break on warranty.

It wouldn't surprise me. But I don't know anything substantial about it.

Really? Was it now?
Sorry I wouldn't know, since it just seems like a very nice way to waste money. I already have a Wii which has collected enough dust to cover a small country, so more motion control is just pointless.

Yeah took mine 1 week.

Like someone said before take it with a pinch of salt. You have to compare it with 360 dieing before kinect with the ones that died with kinect.
Also set that against the people that bought that are fine against the ones that broke down.
Only after looking at those numbers you can say kinect kills 360's (or not)

I work retail and in my Microsoft paperwork that I recieved pre-Kinect, it told me to only sell Kinects to newer X-Box customers or recommend them upgrade to the slim. Microsoft does NOT recommend them on older X-Boxes and that's why they don't offer any guarantees.

Lucky you. Mine got left on the side somewhere for 2 months.

But people with the Pro version (the black one, not the 'Slim' one) which is supposed to be much more reliable as the issue with the melting motherboard was fixed with that have been breaking suspiciously soon after the Kinect instillation.

correlation does not equal causation, as they drill into us in our science degree. I don?t have a kinect, but my girlfriend's family does, and they haven?t had any RRoDs.

*shrug* Apparently, yes :/
Whaa-? Those stats just don't seem right. The media and public including this site has pretty much said that the Kinect has no real gaming value behind it.
Oh well. Good on Microsoft for making a money printing machine.
Dance central is an awesome game.
Too bad it's the only good game on kinect right now, though.

Although this is a bit off topic and dated. It's pretty interesting to watch about good ol' Kinect

Going a bit of-topic here but i always try to make sure i never buy the first generation of a new console(except nintendo but that is because i am a frikking fanboy go me). Most systems have 1 or more problems in the first generation(i won't say that systems that are made after the first production are flawless).

I'm going to chalk it up to that it is just the year of extra red rings for really old systems. My friend who has had his system for at least 3 years now, just ringed on him. He got a nice new system. Didn't get the Kinect for it because he just didn't have the money for the whole package at the time.

Who knows, I highly doubt it was the Kinect that did it.

Other than that, I'm not surprised, that the Kinect is doing so well. It is the wave of the future. A step in the right direction. I see naysayers as people that are resistant to change, even if it is change in the natural progression of technology, as well as gaming technology.

One word, holodecks.

It could be a coincidence. I bought an 360 Elite at its lauch and it red-ringed on me a week after the 360 Slim was launched. I doesn't suprise me that old xboxs are failing now. They simply aren't built to last.

I have nothing to contribute to this conversation.

I never bought kinect, and I won't unless decent kinect games come out.

OK I'm going to say this blankly, but before I do I would like to add the reason for this statement. There is far to many of these post being on the internet.

1. You are fishing for a responds. (If so, eh we all got to be feeders at one point)

2. You changed your line of thought halfway, and did not reread it. (probably unlikely)

3. You for some unknown reason(might be a only child, or had overly kind parents)feel that the world does in fact listen, and even care about your every fleeting thought. It is here i feel i must inform you, to the crashing reality it does indeed not.

TL;DR Overview

pointless post

Last of all. Yes i do realize the irony, of both not posting any thing to contribute, and ignoring the original idea that this post would be to the point(blank). I thought i would keep in fashion. (just in-case any one wanted to be a intelligent planet [points for in prov reference]
