Kingdom Hearts Platform Mess

I really, really wish that Kingdom Hearts would just pick a platfrom already. KH1 came out on PS2, then Chain of Memories on the DS, then KH2 on the PS2, then they rereleased CoM for PS2 (not that good), then 358/2 Days on the DS, and Birth By Sleep is coming out on the PSP, and now another one on the DS! This is getting a little ridiculous. I love the KH games but I've only played about a third of them because of all this nonsense!

Am I the only one a little annoyed by this? Weigh in your opinions.

Well, I guess I find it kind of odd that they don't just pick a single company to make games for, but they're Square Enix, so the fact that their games are on all sorts of different platforms isn't all that surprising.

I don't really mind.

I don't have any Sony Systems so i was excited when the DS got 358/2 days.

It is kind of annoying but, im fine with it.

It does bother me a lot. I just happened to luck out and have both a DS and PSP

Chains of Memory was on the GBA, but yes, I totally agree

I went into Kingdom Hearts 2 without bothering to play Chains of Memory, and the entire first 4 hours of the game was all based on stuff in Chains of Memory..

that basically killed the series for me.

Actually it's even worse than that, as a lot of what the starting section of KH2 (with Roxas) was also based on 358/2 Days, which didn't come out until months/years after KH2 hit the shelves!

I still love the series though. Cool villains, fun battle system, generally decent voice work and the Disney sections are a lot more agreeable than I thought they would be.

Chains of Memories was for the GBA, not the DS.
Christ, that makes it even worse. It is ridiculous. I never played CoM so had to Wiki the plot before KH2 came out because a ridiculous amount of stuff happens in it, a game which not that many people actually bought
I've not bought 358/2 days or whatever the fuck it's called because I sold my DS and just don't care enough unless it's on a home console. Although if Birth My Sleep is any good I might be persuaded to buy a PSP because I have always wanted to
I don't know why Square are doing this to us

I dont mind the fact that it comes out on different platforms.

I dont get why theres so much Chain of Memory hate floating about; its a really great game. Different, yes, but equally good.

ANYWAYS, I like the idea of multiplatforms. Maybe the next big game that hits the consoles will swing onto the 360; making it more useless for me to buy a PS3

It is fairly annoying.

But you know what's worse? The fact that they keep releasing these games but wont give us Kingdom Hearts III! I want that game, damn it!

Yeah, KH2 was a pretty big fuckup in the beginning.. it got decent once you got to go into the different worlds again with Sora, and it was a funner/more polished game then the first one.

but I hated it. I hate hate hated it.

Not because of Disney, or anything like that.

I hated it for the reason this thread was made. None of it made any goddamn sense if you only played the first one. It's the only game series I've ever seen that requires you to do fucking HOMEWORK if you want to get any real logical sense out of it.

Chains of Olympus for the PSP apparently did something like this too, where the ending of GoW3 made a lot more sense if you had played Chains of Olympus..

It's a bad move guys.. Hopefully, in this era of DLC, this sort of crossplatform reading assignments will end.

At least with the new ones they aren't putting in a lot of stuff you need to know. When KH2 came out I played it without playing CoM and it made my brain hurt.

who knows? Maybe KH3 will require that you are intimately familiar with all 5 KH titles to make any sense out of it.

I agree that it's stupid to take a game series and put all the sequals, prequals, spinoffs, and tie ins on different platforms but after seeing the mess SquareEnix made after Kingdom hearts 2, i'm not in the least surprised.

I really liked the first game but the second one sorta ruined it for me. It was like doing the first game in reverse. after spending all that time closing the worlds off to save them from the heartless now were opening them back up. The game made this big deal about the nobodies but you mostly just fight the heartless again. even the combat seem to go backwards. rather than having an arsenal of growing combos you now were trying to remove combos to get to the finishing blow as fast as possible because thats the only thing that could beat bosses and several enemies and that mechanic can go suck a fat one.

SquareEnix has proved time and again that they're moron's. they've yet to make a single game i've liked...oh and the frist kingdom hearts was a Squaresoft game so it doesn't count. I'm convinced that the merege with Enix is what destroyed any common sense that Squaresoft had.

Despite that lack of knowledge. I found the opening sequence of Kingdom Hearts 2 with Roxas, much better than the hours after it. Although, that is arguably because I can't stand Sora, Donald and Goofy as characters, or the disney worlds in general. Shame, considering the other aspects of the game were really good.

I think in general I wish more games would be released on the bigger consoles(Meaning Wii/PS3/360). Unfortunately for me, handheld games hardly ever get a look in. I believe the only DS game I've ever completed is The World Ends With You. Although they're cheaper to make, for me it really limits the potential of the game in most cases. I know Kingdom Hearts 258/2, I quite enjoyed that game, and its story, however, the missions got very repetative, and I somewhat blame that on the limitations of how much can be stored on a DS cart.

Ugh, this mess again. I refuse to buy a new platform to play a continuation to a game series. I'm sorry, but there hasn't been a game good enough for me to buy a hand held that I would in all likely hood only play one game on. It's like making a TV series exclusive to a cable channel and then having the second season exclusive to a satellite network. It makes no ********** sense.
