I'm only posting this under gaming discussion since its based around a video game.

With the new trilogy coming up, I thought how awesome it would be to have a movie trilogy based on Knights of the Old Republic (the first one). A game which many consider to be one of the best star-wars related stories in any medium, with absolutely terrific writing (in a star-wars sense, anyway, where creating space ships out of hatred actually works).

So I, as is nerd law, have tried to piece out how a trilogy based on a video game would actually work, and keep true to the story, and how they could be effective as actual movies in their own right with pacing and everything. The main issue being, what needs to be cut. Well, Tatooine can be cut-out entirely as not much important happens there overall besides obtaining HK-47. Also, I'm going by the logic that with all main events of the game, you would only really have time for three star charts, one for each film or something. You would need, at least, the events on Taris, Dantooine, buildup to the big twist, the Ebon Hawk being taken by the Leviathan, Bastilla being captured, and the final confrontation.

I'm posting this, interested in whatever thoughts you all might have, how this might work logistically, and maybe some potential actors? Ron Pearlman as Canderous Ordo? Maybe not?

Sam Jackson for Jolee. I imagine him playing him like his character in the trailer for King's Men. Having him tell you not to ruin the carpet in his hut is pure comedy gold.

But to be fair, I think that bringing this story to the big screen won't work pacing wise though. McGuffin chases can be hard to watch, there's too large of a cast (of which half aren't even remotely interesting: Mission? Carth 'Ser Whinealot' Onassi? Bastila 'Bitchy Mary Sue' Shan?) and the plot of the game isn't that interesting, plus you already know the plot, including the twists. Also I somehow doubt Malak holds up if you play him straight, he's a very cartoony villain plus in the movie his betrayal would not be personal. In fact, the sequel has many more interesting themes to explore, mostly due to writing. I'm curious to see how the average Joe would respond to the Jedi being exposed as something that shouldn't be aspired too. And this time not by a cackling maniacal clearly evil man as our dear Palpatine.

I heavily favour spinoffs: Jolee as an Al Bundy/Jay Pritchett style grumpy head of a family in a sitcom? Yes please. HK-47 and another droid (not T3 cause you need one that talks, have him be a supporting character) in a buddy cop movie? Hell yes! Including a chief that questions his methods, but damnit HK, he gets the job done! I'll even watch a raunchy comedy of Bastila who goes to college and discovers the limits of her prude stiff upbringing (Jedi training?) and discovers sex, drugs and rock and roll. Who knows, it might even give her a shred of likeability.

Anyway, I'll quit here before I delve any further into fan fic territory.

I think they should do a prequel trilogy to KOTOR showing the Mandalorian wars and the fall and subsequent hunt for Revan. Bastila Shan would be the main character (Mary Elizabeth Winstead would be my casting choice, not that i've thought about this a lot). She would have a much smaller group of companions. They should shoot the movie so that Revan isn't actually seen all that much and there would be a male and female version of the movie. Then they should re-release KOTOR 1 and 2 with updated graphics and tweaked combat. Just my 2 cents.
