So far, I have a few beefs.

1. While cinematic, the "sandbox" is redonkulously huge for the amount of driving we have to do. If there were other police stations we could start at, it wouldn't be so bad.

2. The driving would be less horrendous if the cars handled better than a 2-legged donkey. My husband says the company that made this game also did Saint's Row (I have been corrected, see other posts. It's actually GTA, which my husband had actually said... I misremembered what he'd told me). I expected more from their cars, although I haven't found them all yet. And the fact that there are "high speed" car chases makes the crappy handling painfully worse. When the game asks if you want to "skip this action sequence" because you keep hitting things and losing the suspect it makes you feel like a 9 year old at a go-cart park who thought he was going to drive a cart, but then his older brother said he was too little and left him on the sidewalk.

3. Having your partner drive may mean that you miss something important, like "discovering" a landmark, catching a street crime broadcast, or finding a film reel or car... And, your partner could be a worse driver than you! Mine rear-ended several cars, ran down a street lamp, and plowed through a crowd of pedestrians so far... But if I drive I go so slow that it takes EONS to get where we're going.

4. There is no self save feature. The game auto saves at certain points and heaven forbid you don't reach one before you turn off the game (and think you did). Why can't game makers get it through their heads? Players would like to be able to save the game, of their own initiative, in addition to the auto-save feature.

5. The AI is a bit off. You're blasting your siren to get people to move out of your way, and cars STOP in your path, and pedestrians RUN AT YOU. What the crap!? I thought the siren was supposed to make it easier for you to travel, not more nerve-wracking.

Other than that, the game is AWESOME!!!! The story is rich, the graphics are amazing, the dialog does not sound like garbage, and the "mini-game" (reading peoples' faces for the truth) is difficult and interesting so I don't feel like I'm just strolling through the game. It also looks like they got some grade-A actors in to portray a lot of the characters.

Wasn't Saints Row made by Volition? L.A. Noire is made by Team Bondi and Rockstar(I think).

I've always had problems with the driving in Rockstar games. Also I hate it when you can't save a game manually.

just a minor correction, the company that made this made Grand Theft Auto, not Saint's Row.

and as much as i sometimes would've liked a self service save system, i think it would have ultimately degenerated the game into a "oops, reload" every 3 minutes when you got a single question wrong.

Nice to hear that the gameplay is solid, and even those gripes, that were even present in GTA, won't stop me from enjoying this game. But I guess the bad car control is meant to reflect the era the game is set, I doubt designers in the 1940s/50s ever thought handbrake turns would catch on.

The driving was one of my biggest problems with it. The cars would constantly pull out in front of me. It was near impossible to drive from one place to another without ramming into everything.

But yeah, the acting is incredible. The only problem I have with the acting is that it will make me wish all other games felt that real. Easily the best facial animations in any video game and the voice acting is good enough to be in any movie.

I'm really digging it so far and while I don't know if it beats Portal 2 it's looking to be one of the best games I've bought this year.

Ah! Thank you ! I knew it was a "driving" game he mentioned...

no problem. i figured i should say something nicely before some jerk comes in here all... jerky. i dunno, i'm tired. it's late. or early now. yeah. the clock in the corner of the screen says it's 630, so i'm inclined to believe it. seems like just yesterday it was 1230. time should slow down.

I can't comment on the rest since I haven't played it, but Rockstar is notorious for AI jumping infront of your car. They always move away from the centre of your car, but if you're turning a corner this often leads to them wandering right onto the road into your curved path. It was in GTA 3 and it seems they've never learned to just make them hug the building walls already...

Operation Flashpoint had the right idea- there was an autosave after every objective was completed- plus ONE user placed save per level. You could do it anywhere you wanted, but with only one to use in missions that could last up to an hour, you'd better be damn sure you're using it wisely...

Seriously. I could be driving along, no sirens, minding my own business... managing to keep the car straight for once, and out of no where, some punk sideswipes me because he HAS to be in my lane RIGHT NOW!!! And it counts against me in the "damage to car" part of the case grading even if HE hit me...

You spelled it wrong...

Other than that bit of trollishness, I reserve this space to address your criticisms when Amazon finally sends me the game (only one more day I hope!).

I think this hit the nail on the head regarding the save system.

Would totally take away from the whole detective part of the game if you could do this, and you know that people would.
