Oh, that's awesome! It means I can buy it! XD

On a more forward-thinking note, it sets a standard for future games that can be released in Australia, and it means games developers have a lot more options when trying to market games in Australia (and elsewhere where games aren't always approved by the government). It shows that there are ways around the bans, and it's a good sign that our classifications board may be making progress towards eventually approving an R18+ rating.

Hopeful, I guess.

But I got to say I thought it was pretty funny when it got banned in Australia and now I can't joke about it any more, which has made me kinda sad.

EDIT:} Oh, OP, the third link's not working.

And it sucks that Valve had to remove some of the gore for reclassification, but oh well.

From "More related links" in the 2dayplaya -> softpedia article:
Andrei Dumitrescu (Cricket Bat Appears in Left 4 Dead 2) said:
The bat could be slow, as you need to swing to build up power, but players will probably get a bonus from using it, possibly the ability to knock the heads off one zombie and take out another one, in a very cricket-like fashion.
I'm not sure what type of game Andrei Dumitrescu thinks cricket is... maybe he's thinking of croquet?

Sweet. Video games for everyone! It's a communist dream come true!

.... I mean, um, that's pretty sweet. Now everyone can enjoy L4D2 (heh, sounds like a battle droid).

Hopeful that I'll be able to get my Aussie buddies to join me in kicking zombie ass.

Out of curiosity, how does Australia stop you from buying the game over Steam? If you had someone use your account in a foreign country to buy the game for you, will the game get deleted or something?

I am saddened. It will allow Valve to obtain more money to put towards episode 3 and will popularize the idea that co-op means gimping every player.

No it is not unbanned, it has been modded by Valve to be able to have less viiolence, so in essence the Austrailian ratings board is not changing their ruling there just making Austrailians suck it to play it. Your not getting the game, in other words, your getting the "think of the children" approach for a game that is soooo obivlsly not for kids that i want to punch someone in the face thinking about this.

Is it the gimped version? If so I wonder what they have changed; given the zombies horns or something. The infected in RE5 looked pretty human to me (except when they go all split-jawed) so I don't know why the OFLC bought the hammer down on L4D2. What next, no two fingered hand on the box?
