Hi guys.
Recently, my friend and I dug up Age of Empires II to relive some nostalgia. We can get our online games set up well enough, but often, there will be periods where the game completely freezes up from lag. We can still scroll around, select units, etc, but they won't move and respond to commands.
Our PCs are fairly decent (by around 2009 standards, anyway...), same goes for our internet. We both run Windows 7, and are playing on laptops.
We set up over Hamachi, if that makes a difference. We tried dropping the number of players from 4 v 4 to 2 v 2 to see if it resolved the issues, but it had a minimal positive effect. And we got completely steamrolled by the AI. But our lack of skill is an issue for another day.
Additionally, whenever I play, the grass is speckled with bright green and red pixels, and the water takes a nasty shade of cyan and purple. I've managed to solve this by closing "explorer.exe" from the Task Manager, but does anyone know of a cleaner solution?
Thanks in advance!
