So I got Shadows of the Damned, stick the game in the PS3, boot it up, press start when prompted and was given a trophy for this incredibly taxing bit of gaming.

I don't need a trophy for starting a game. Its annoying and slightly insulting, like the game saying to me "well done retard, you figured out how to put the game in the console".

So I ask, what is the worst/lamest/most insulting trophy/achievement that you have ever received?

Mirror's Edge - Test of Faith. Complete the game without shooting an enemy. Good luck with that one guys!

Edit - huh apparently it wasn't that bad... it annoyed the hell out of me! :p

Meh, it's easy. :3
Anyway, didn't Simpsons: The Game (You just lost it, by the way) have an achievement for pressing the start-button?

Yes. I like to think that sort of thing is backlash for those twits on the XBox Forums who demanded the right to remove games from their profile that they had not earned any achievements in.

Soul Caibur 4 has one for making it past the title screen.

If I'm not mistaken Guitar Hero: World Tour had one for beating just one song.

I think vanquish has one for completing the tutorial. I don't think that's particuary hard.

I'd say the one from the latest Turok game that was removed was easily the worst. You know the one; it had you kill your own teammates in a multiplayer match for an achievement. So you actually get rewarded for being a dick.

TF2: Socket to Him - Headshot an enemy Demoman.

It's not even like Demos are hard to headshot, or that you have to kill tons of them -- headshot one slow moving Demo and that's it.

That was actualy the best time I had on that game! It was a nice challenge doing that on the hardest difficulty.

OT:Battle Stations: Pacific had an achievement that the in order to get it, you had to play the first one of the games, then play the sequel to unlock it and that was the only way to unlock it. And you know there was someone out there that wasted there money just to get that achievement.

PORTAL 2: Pit Boss: Show the pits who's boss. Basically, you have to jump to your death at one point in the game.

Any game that makes you do the tutorial for points, for example guitar hero. But also id personally say dead rising one, the achievement to kill 60,000? zombies, or whatever it is, and the only way to do it is to basically use constantly respawning trucks / cars in the tunnels to run them over, and it takes hours on end to complete.

Achievements should mean something was achieved beyond simply booting up or playing the game. I dislike trophies from tutorials, or from mere progress (you beat chapter two out of nineteen, ding!). Completed the game? Yes. Did a ridiculous stunt? Yes. Beat the boss within a time limit? Yes. But don't reward me for making it to the title screen. It's like those ribbons they give out sometimes after contests, that say "Participant." It means nothing and it cheapens the prizes given to the people who actually won.

I kinda like tutorial/game boot achievements.

You see, it lets you record/remember the day you first played a game.

Reading through my lists magically invokes a sense of...nostalgia...for things that aren't actually old.

And I like that.

As for dumbest?

Quake 4's achievement for being #1 on the leaderboards. COMPLETIONIST'S NIGHTMARE.

It was an excercise in frustration for me, especially the unavoidable combat sections.

I think Shadowrun had a hidden achievement for t-bagging people in a match. Really guys? That sort of thing doesn't need to be encouraged.
