Ignore the first response unless you like the idea paying WAY too much for your laptop.

I'd recommend something from Toshiba. Their Qosmio laptops look good and I've heard good things about Toshiba.

Ignore this completely. Alienware is far to overpriced. Half of your money goes on a shiny alienware case.

That seems really strange wanting a laptop for gaming, They can(at least for me) be pretty awkward to game with. If you insist though Alienware would a good place to look.

Alienware is the LAST place you should look. Direct your browser to some solid 1000 dollar ASUS laptops. My ASUS is my primary gaming computer and a year in still runs all games on high.

I'll be an ASUS customer for life.

I have a massive amount of free time at work and the desktop has 256mb ram, a pentium 3 and a gpu from the middle ages. so i dont care if its awkward.

what do you guys think of the asus G51JX-X3 its specs are:
* CPU: Intel Core i5-430M processor 2.26 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.53 GHz
* Memory: 4GB DDR3-1066 RAM
* Storage: 500GB 7,200RPM hard drive
* Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M 1GB GDDR5 VRAM
is this good value for 1000$?
