So these are the two links to the info.

I got an Acer Aspire 5532 recently for ?500.
The only game I've tried playing is Civ 4, but that runs perfectly.

Just make sure you have a good processor and graphics card and you should be fine.

Out of the two you linked to, I'd go for the Acer, but that's just me - the first one will most definitely not be good for gaming.

Out of those two I'd pick the acer. It should do you ok, though I have doubts about the video card.

Dont get any chipset for family graphics cards, they dont work at all and there fused to the motherboard, making them unchangeable

Around 2gb of RAM is all thats needed for almost 95% of games, and even if you dont wanna play high graphics games, its still good to have at least 2gb ( the more the merrier)

Also, im not sure on the intel graphics cards, I have one and its awful. The radion one looks good though.

Also if you want to play blu ray movies, you'll need one with a blue ray drive

Hope this helps :D

I'd go with the Acer, my previous laptop was an Acer, and got the job done fairly well.

I wouldn't buy either of those.
Especially from a big box store.

Both Gateway and Acer are terrible and I'd look into getting an Asus instead.
But seeing as you have a gift card to the store, then I'd say go with the Acer over the Gateway.
Hopefully it will last longer then a year.

My laptop is running with ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics, and it plays Civ 4 flawlessly.
I don't know if that's helpful to you or not - I think that's about 256mb dedicated graphics memory.

Getting Civ to run on Windows 7 is the biggest problem, but I got past it.

you will not be able to play high end graphics games or medium graphics games on a laptop for such a small price your better in buying a deskptop for that price, your looking to spend atleast 1000+ for a good gaming laptop.
