What is the least accurate movie adaptation of its source material?

One that comes to mind for me is the Starship troopers book to movie. I saw the movie first and enjoyed it but after reading the book realized they had little in common other than character and place names. The human wave mentality in the movie is different from the orbital drop doctrine in the book, The plot follows a different sequence of events than the book, and most of the political philosophy from the book is lost. Overall the movie is a satire while the book is a political essay in the guise of a bovel.

What are you're thoughts?

NOTE: it doesn't matter if the movie version or the book, comic, video game, etc. version was better just how different they are from one another.

Dragonball Evolution, it has nothing to do with Dragonball other than Dragon Balls and character names. Do I win?

Erh, Constantine. They even changed the fucking name of it! Hellblazer is bitchin'! Constantine was not.

Though hopefully Scott Pilgrim Vs The World will be faithful. I have high hopes for that movie. I read all five volumes today and it's freakin' awesome! Plus Edgar Wright is great, as is Michael Cera.

Eragon was a pretty poor representation.

As was the Hitman movie.

I'm going to have to go with

Every movie adapatation in history barring maybe sin city is way off the mark. It's difficult to keep a film script true to a book, game etc..

Damn, Mario's already been said.

Going to have to go with the two War of the Worlds adaptations.

Aside from Tripods (and one doesn't even have those) they bare no resemblance to Wells' book. The most grating thing by far though is the Martian's invulnerability in both. Wells went to the lengths of imaging them as an entirely vulnerable and killable military force that was simply so much better versed in tactics and it's weapons that it rolled over humanities best army, even though the army did in fact put up a fight.

It was supposed to be all about the lack of heroes in battle, the increasing unfairness of warfare and Wells' fear of what mechanized warfare could become. Instead we get schlocky alien horror stories with all American heroes, bravo Mr Spielberg, bravo.

Wanted.

I read the comic, it's nothing like the movie at all.

And the comic's actually really good.

Both of these get my vote for worst comic to film adaptation. come on there was no reason we could not have had a film based on the Liverpudlian former punk rocker / conman that we all know and love. Same with wanted it would have been great to see a sociopathic Eminem look alike tearing his way through civilians and super villains.

The Running Man was radically different from its source material and if I had the serious cash required to make a movie I would make TRM the greatest anime in the history of everything. The book is gritty and brutal and friggin awesome. The movie is goofy and dopey and friggin stupid (although I'll admit that that's part of the appeal).

Wow, I'm the first person mentioning Starship Troopers? Love the book and the movie but literally the similarities end with

1) There is a character from Earth called Johnny (in the book his name was Juanitto) and a couple of the other characters had the same names as well.
2) You have to serve in the military to become a citizen.
3) There is a war with a race called Bugs (in the book they were an industrial race more like humans).

Yeah, plus the title that's pretty much it. My personal favorite difference though is the character 'Dizzy' Gilespy(sp?). In the movie the character was a hot redhead that ends up being a romantic interest for Johnny. In the book...a guy who dies on the first page.
