Left 4 Dead DLC Crash Course Now Available

If Steam seems a little wonky, it might be because Valve released the Left 4 Dead [http://www.l4d.com/crashcourse/] today, along with a couple of very solid zombie-killing bargains for the uninitiated.

The long-awaited Crash Course ties the No Mercy and Death Toll campaigns together with new single player and multiplayer action featuring Survival maps and a Co-op campaign. The focus, however, was on the add-on's new streamlined Versus campaign, which lets players work through the complete experience in just a half-hour. Other changes include new dialog, ten new Achievements, a recharge timer for infected teammates and changed spawns for more balanced gameplay.

And what's a DLC release without a hot three-day deal to go along with it? For those who haven't already had the pleasure of struggling for survival against hordes of rampaging undead, Left 4 Dead Four-Pack [http://www.valvesoftware.com/] at half-price until October 2.

All this zombie-killing fun comes with a price, though, and some users are reporting that Steam is behaving a little oddly [http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=977281] under all the strain. Your mileage may vary, but enough complaints about overloaded Steam servers are cropping up that wait times might be an issue for some of you. So be patient - the zombie apocalypse will be waiting when you get there!

Left 4 Dead?

With new DLC?

For $15?

Count me in.
£12.50 on my client, guess that's part of our EU tax =_= I love Valve products and all, but that still pumps my nads.

This is just the opportunity I've been waiting for though, they've still made a sale.

I just got done playing it (singe player, since there are no Dedicated Servers yet) and it's a pretty solid DLC, my only complaint is that it is just 2 maps, i had assumed it would be another full 5-map campaign, but oh well.

After much nause having to wait for a free server I was able to download the update. Then after joining lobbies with hosts that wont start and joining locally hosted game I managed to get into a dedicated server for Versus mode.

The new campaign actually feels a bit weak. The shortened length is welcome for multiplayer however the two chapters of the campaign feel a bit thrown together; it really felt like a lot of assets were reused throughout the levels. This was particularly noticeable with the trucks. There were no particular standout areas that you get with the other three maps. After reading a synopsis about the finale I was more than a bit underwhelmed.

However, it is still Left 4 Dead and plays how you would expect. There are some good moments and it's a welcome addition to the same four maps, just don't expect it to be anywhere near as exhaustive for replay value.

A 2000 point card is about £17.50-£20 and this is only 560 MS Points, means it's around a fiver; not bad really.

It was designed with Versus in mind, essentially creating a short campaign that would allow for faster games.

I am not impressed. It's been almost a year since L4D was released. So far, Valve has not kept up with their PROMISES of additional content for L4D1. 1 new survival map and 2 additional campaign maps is pretty underwhelming.

Hey I have an idea. Why don't you boycott L4D2 in protest?

I love the new campaign, and anything with new achievements makes the whore in me happy.

If your friends keep telling you how awesome it is, make them all chip in to gift you it on Steam.

I mean at that price it'll be, what, £3-4 a piece? Or less if you're popular and have more friends.

so i just finished the new campaign and I have to say it is a little lack luster. though is quality is great I got about the same level of quality from small groups of modders making a 5 part campaign without an SDK

They are longer in themselves than the ordinary original maps, and full of nooks and crannies and even multiple paths. Found myself going in circles a couple of times, which for a game like this aint such a bad thing. I get the feeling we might have seen some highlights of what is going into L4D2 as well, with a twist on the final climax and a map! This wasn't copy and paste, this was original, with new lines. "Oh look, Zoey musta shot the engineer.."

Well shorter is certain with only two maps, but definitely not easier for survivors. Both have awesome ambush points, giving the survivor players a stronger challenge. I'm looking forward to trying versus a few times on these maps.

It's... okay. The finale is great, it's got a good atmosphere but it seems... I dunno it's good but I guess I was expecting more.
It's a shame because a lot of the appeal of Left 4 Dead was the promised continual addition of content, Hell this was one of the defences for the criticism that there were only four campaigns at release. They've added what? Versus support for Dead Air and Death Toll, (which really should have been there at release,) Survival mode plus the Lighthouse map and now half a campaign? I keep feeling that Valve promised more than they could deliver - or at least instead of delivering what was promised for L4D they're putting all that stuff in L4D2.

I feel like a douchebag for expecting "More free stuff" but I can't help but feeling dissapointed.
