As the title says, it was confirmed today by Bryan Konietzko that a new Legend of Korra comic lasting more that 3 series, is that the proper word for comics(?), would be coming out. Haven't seen a release date yet but he says it will be published by Dark Horse comics, written by Michael DiMartino and he will consulting on the art.

On one hand I'm really excited because it's new content and hopefully it will mean a slew of new Korra FanFiction, but then I realise living in the middle of Ireland limits my comic selections. Hopefully they release an online version.

Thoughts?

My thought on it is a resounding meh. I never got around watching any of after season one so I'm hardly interested in the comics.

The main focus of the comic is on Korrasami? So are they going to actually make me give a shit about that "romance" or...?

I'll keep an eye out but I can't say I'm interested. LoK was a mess from start to finish, and it's going to take a lot to get me to care about any of the characters or what happened to them after. I rather wish Bryke would just move onto a new avatar. Or a new story in general.

?The focus of the first three volumes will be focusing on Korrasami and the aftermath of the finale, no big time jumps.?
So yeah, lots of Korrasami but hopefully that bit about the aftermath will have to do with the remnants of Kuviras army or maybe something to do with the fractured Earth Kingdom/Empire/Republic.

I can see the Korrasami bit turning people away, they never handled the romances well in the first 2 seasons.

Frankly Bryke were never that great at writing romance period. :p It didn't stand out so much in TLA since that was a bit more kiddish and cliche, with all it's talk of grand destiny and saving the world from an evil overlord, but LoK? It takes itself so much more seriously, and the teen drama romance writing reeeaaally stands out when back-dropped against the rest of the show.

Most of the relationships in Korra felt underwhelming and just boring to me, just perfunctory. And that's not even touching the hot mess that was Makorra.

Eh, maybe they'll prove me wrong with this. But frankly, I'm not holding my breath.

I'm excited. I'm still reading the Avatar comics when they come out. I'm looking forward to continuing the story, because there were still a few leftover questions that I had. Mainly, I wanted to see what happens to Kuvira. I want to see her answer for all the people she killed.

That's cool and all, but I choose to remain cautiously optimistic. Personally, I'd prefer to read about Avatars past and the exploits... Or is that just a pipe dream?

At this point, I'm over LoK.
I felt it didn't end well and that the ending romance was too quick. I somewhat even agree with some of the internet, that is was an "asspull" moment. Still, when it comes to the comics, I wish I knew about the Last Airbender ones back then, it would have been nice to read them.

I won't bother with this though, I'm just wondering where the Avatar series can go from here.

Wait... Michael's working on this?

Meh... I'll wait until the wiki comes out to see if this might appeal to me on the same level as Zuko's mother...

Due to track record of these two characters and many avatar romances i wouldn't be surprised if the relationships ends at some point during the comic.

The previous Avatar comics were underwhelming. The show just didn't really translate well into comic form. Plus there were a lof of plot inconsistencies and weird characterizations, not to mention that none of the stories involved anything more than local threats.

Same with me.

I mean sure from reading A:TLAB story summaries online were ok but I don't buy graphic novels that often.

I'm always up for more material from the Avatar universe, but I'm not certain that focusing specifically on the relationship side of things is a good idea. While I did enjoy the romances in the original series, the ones in Legend of Korra were perfunctory at best, annoying at worst - I'm not sure it if reflects something the writers just aren't very good at, or if its a problem with the characters not fitting together very well, but it doesn't have a great track record either way.

I imagine that they'll still have plenty of time for bigger problems and conflicts and such, though, so I have that to look forward to. I remember thinking in the finale that it seemed as though there were some huge political problems on the horizon in the Earth Kingdom that were either unresolved or potentially made much worse. How well is Kuvira's massive, powerful army with widespread love and support from the population going to respond to the whole "complete and total surrender"-thing? Not well, I'm guessing. Not to mention the absolutely, completely, insanely stupid choice on the part of Wu to dissolve the entire Earth Kingdom and let each state become its own separate nation, which is a terrible decision that realistically would only cause widespread chaos and disorder. How are people going to react to that, I wonder?

Hopefully we get to see more of Kuvira. You've got to love a villain that is (almost) completely right (almost) all the time.

I do hope that Lin Bei-Fong's sister doesn't show up, though: I really hate that character.

Oh, will they do an interesting cotrast with the other avatar? Oh wait, they killed all the avatars forever because Korra needs to be the best avatar EVAR.
On that note: is that plot-point still canon? The whole "all the other Avatars are gone forever and no fan will ever see them again, so stop asking about Aang and Roku"-thing, I mean. I remember being really angry about that in Season 2, but to my knowledge I honestly can't remember it ever being mentioned again or discussed by anyone. Were we just supposed to forget that happened because the creator's no longer acknowledge it, or is that stupid idea still kicking but just ignored by everyone?

Well, if it has the same writers as the A:TLA comics, then I guess I'll give it a shot. Honestly, Legend of Korra lost me after the first season (I've only kept up with it through summaries and video clips), so I'm not as excited about this as I am for say, Smoke and Shadow.

I like that the comics thus far have been centered on smaller conflicts, touching on plot points that were not fully addressed in the show and focusing more on character development. Building up to the world as seen in Legend of Korra. I kind of doubt that there will ever been another Avatar animated series, but I am curious as to whether these comics will build up to anything.

As far as Korrasami goes, I'm still not entirely convinced that it was, well, convincingly built up to.

Good.

I need my fix of post season 2 Korra as I'm still feeling the withdrawal. Season 4 didn't end as well as I was hoping (Oh no, Kuvira turned into mecha-hitler. That was disappointing) but everything from the start of season 3 onwards was amazing, and so being offered more? Sure, I'll bite.
