in your personal opinion, do you think Zelda Skyward Sword is a good game? I'm playing it and I think it is a great game. Though I wish they would have just used the graphics from Zelda Twilight Princess instead.

Initially I had a very negative reaction to the game, but I've mellowed out a bit. There were many parts that I really did have fun with, but I still hold that the game has a ton of problems.

For one I found the controls to be pretty frustrating. They weren't difficult, but they often had a lag in reaction time and made some actions unecessarily awkward.

I was also extremely disappointed in the lack of exploration. There were literally 3 places to go excluding skyloft, and even skyloft was just a village with a bunch of floating rocks around it :(

Plus Fi was aggrevating as hell and less than useless.

Most of the temples were either just ok, or annoying as well.

I loved it. I was impressed with how well the controls were, just the fact that random waggling will not get you far is a plus for me. I personally liked the graphics, it is a much more lighthearted adventure than TP so it makes sense here. I also really loved Zelda's characterization. Because she's not a princess that time around, you get to see her in a whole new light. The one complaint that I have with it is how they handled Fi. Her constant reminders on how to do the most basic shit nearly every time you turn the game back on got annoying really damn quick.

While I did like it at first but by the time I finish the game, it was a dissapointment for me. To sum it up-

Pro-
Best potrayal of Zelda compared to the previous incarnation of her. She has far more personality.
I like the graphic and the new characters (why did Grose exosted just now?).
I like the upgrading the items you used despite it was simple. It kind of felt like a rpg element to it.

Con-
Sure the new control were cool but it became a pain when fighting the Moblin due to the precise slash to make with the control.
Padding, lots and lots of padding.
While I like Fi design but she became far worse then Navi and her "singing" creep me out alot.
I hated how they competely got rid of the open world (the ground area) and the world above the sky itself was more of a barren land well sky.

While it's by no means my favourite Zelda game, I still enjoyed it a ton.

Well, except for Fi.

Curse you, Fi!

I liked it well enough. The pros for me were as such:
Great art style
The new Zelda style and personality were great
The plot was pretty well done, with some great characters like Groose
I actually liked the silent realms. Very tense at times, in a good way.
The dungeons were (typically of a Zelda game) all pretty well done.
The boss fights were particularly good if I recall correctly.
I like the hub world and centralized shops of Skyloft.
The music was great as usual.

The motion controls were hit and miss. Some of the boss sword-fights were great but it still suffers from poor detection and responsiveness often, like all Wii games.

Cons include
The flying is pretty weak. Compared to Wind Waker, there are extremely few actual islands or places of note to visit.
As noted above, there are pretty much three main areas that are introduced, which you then retread for the rest of the game.
The latter half of the game is filled with a lot of fetch quest/filler content.
Fi. In addition to being a fairly cliche and archetypical "robot who doesn't understand emotions beep boop calculations percentages blah blah", she's extremely annoying. Sometimes while in the middle of solving a puzzle, she'd pop up essentially just to tell me how to solve it. She also chimes in when your hearts are low, as if I can't clearly see that, when the Wii's batteries are low, which is pointless, and when your shield is about to break, even though there's a clear HUD element for just that reason.
Also for some idiotic reason, you will often end up seeing the description of small collectible over and over and over again. Because why not.

Overall it was alright. Not extremely good or bad. A decent addition to the Zelda franchise.

I didn't think it was a good zelda game. Granted It hyped alot about open world flying, but then turns out really weak and limited. Dungeons were good, but other zelda games had more challenging and lengthy dungeons. not to mention the whole re-visiting dungeons. Characters were great though, but at the same time nintendo didn't really go into depth with characters.
Also the challenge from the game doesn't come from the enemy AI or the puzzles, its fighting the controls.

In summary:
Pros
-Good characters
-Interesting story

Cons
-Fighting the controls once in a while
-Worse when there are mobs that punish you for swinging wrong
-Aside from the Villain and Final boss, not many memorable Bosses.
-Actually, there was one boss that was awsome half-way through, cant remember the others
-Fi can get very annoying
-Very weak and pointless flying
-One of the Least challenging zelda games
-Also one of the shorter Zelda games, very little side missions

If you find Skyward sword on sale for 20-ish bucks, then go for it, but you can get better deals for a full price $50-%60 game. (Hell, save up for Wind Waker HD instead if you haven't played it)

I thought it was pretty good. Probably my third favorite Zelda after Majora and OoT.

The characters were cool, the dungeons were nice, music was awesome, and the final boss is badass.

It's not perfect mind you. The controls, while they worked well for me, might not work for everyone, and while I didn't hate Fi, she was annoying sometimes.

Overall, I had a good time with it.

I loved Skyward Sword. I got it for Christmas the same time as Skyrim, and I actually liked it more than Skyrim. Most of the complaints people had I didn't have a problem with. I didn't find Fi as annoying as everyone else did, and found her quite helpful. The gameplay and motion controls I thought were tight and fun, and I loved the visuals. I always thought the Zelda games looked better when they're being bright, colorful, and light-hearted and weren't trying to be dark and brooding. It made me feel like a kid again playing Wind Waker, and had a sense of adventure and fun that I thought was missing from Twilight Princess (Which I still liked, just not as much as Skyward Sword.)

It was a good game. Great, even. The thing is, the game came so close to being the best Zelda game ever, and stumbled on such basic things its frustrating. It did so many things right that what it got wrong stood out even more.

On one hand, it had some of the best dungeons in the series, one of the best interpretations of Zelda in any game, great bosses (with the painful exception of The Imprisoned) and fun characters like Groose and Ghirahim.

But the lack of fast travel gets annoying (especially late game when you spend most of the last quarter backtracking), the dousing system was stupid, and Fi did the impossible and ended up being even more annoying than Navi.

It's good enough for one playthrough at least, but it's so flawed that it's by far my least favorite Zelda game out of the three I've owned (the other two being Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask, both of which I really like).

The artstyle and half of the uses of motion controls were great, most of the characters were good and there are some really awesome and well-designed puzzles and dungeons, but the other half of the uses of the motion controls suck (swimming is a prime example of this), the music is unmemorable (for the most part), the overworlds are boring, and the story is poorly told.

I liked some steps they took, despised other steps they took.

The game's step as being a majorly Plus-oriented game is what kills it for me. A lot of the controls felt so gimmicky with the iteration of the Plus. Dousing was bullshit, flying was bullshit, waving your sword to distract enemies is bullshit, some of the combat moves were bullshit (the Skyward Strike, pointing the Wiimote straight up, is particularly painful in my mind). In general, combat was bullshit--it wasn't arcade-y or quick, it was all careful slicing and understanding the game's unwieldy controls.

Setting the game on a sky setting, like Wind Waker's water setting, doesn't sit well with me and certainly made me hate moments where I wasn't in a dungeon. Stamina further made combat slow -- certainly made movement sluggish and annoying (and remember, dungeons usually have challenges that rely on movement not being slow and sluggish). Didn't like the direction the artwork took, but it's a petty complaint.

Out of the 16 Zelda games it's my third favorite, and since it is in my top ten games anyway, I love it. Although I think it is the weakest of the 3D Zelda games. The motion controls were great, but I prefer traditional 3D Zelda controls personally. There should've been more variety in the three surface zones, but I still think they are fun to explore, especially Faron Woods. Has its share of problems, but I still find it to be an excellent game.

Biggest Plus: Has some of the best dungeons and music in the series.

Biggest Minus: Fighting the Imprisoned three times in the game, and probably more if you want the Hylian shield. Too much hand holding, and Fi was only interesting when she was talking to Link for the last time.

I don't care for it. I HATE the controls. The stupid wii mote needed to be recalibrated everytime I fought something. I got far into it and then they did something that made the flying even worse and so terrible to use I finally gave up playing it and boxed the wii up.

Story wise, graphics, characters, I simply don't care any more, nothing there had any lasting appeal to me. Given my disdain for the wii u I think I may be just done with zelda period.

It's alright, Nintendo as always do deliver a quality made game... minus a proper control scheme in this one.
But the problem is they make new games that are very very old, and while I am one of those nostalgic nutters there are mechanics that need to move on and Nintendo just isn't grasping that.

This game was kind of weird for me. I got it for Christmas, played it for about an hour and a half and wasn't too impressed.

Then I came back to it about six months later and completely loved it! I don't know why but after starting again I had loads of fun with the game. I've noticed that many people weren't fond of the controls or Fi, the control thing is a bit exaggerated, the only problem with the controls is when fighting enemies who you have to stab to finish off, the stab move could be a finicky bastard at times.

And Fi, she could be a bit grating but again, I would say that the problem isn't as big is it is made out to be. She's not that great when compared to the fairies from the Nintendo 64 games and she has nothing on Midna, who is awesome, but she wasn't bad. She had a moment at the end of the game which I actually thought was really well done.

The games problems are nothing compared to the things that the game does right if you ask me. The game has severak awesome characters, which is a big thing for a Zelda game, usually most of the NPC's don't have much going for them but here they're much more interesting. And this has already been mentioned before but Nintendo did such a great job so it deserves to be mentioned again, they actually made Zelda a character this time. Not just someone you need to save who you see maybe twice in the game, she's actually around from the start and she is more than just a plot device for once.

Also, this game had Groose. Groose is awesome.

Generally good but:

Fi is probably the worst companion character ever. Far worse than navi, navi rocked.

I didn't care much for all the additional collection stuff - but that may just be because I have less time these days

Imprisioned was either a very annoying and frustrating fight - or I was just doing it wrong.

Maybe I was just bad at it but I was perpetually low on health. If you are going to make hearts appear make sure they LAND IN ACCESSIBLE PLACES.

The controls killed it for me.

Bad game play can sink a game if there's nothing else there.
