Some of you may remember this guy: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-02-25-disgraced-senator-who-campaigned-against-violent-video-games-jailed?utm_content=buffer0726c&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Former US State Senator Leland Yee has been sentenced to five years in prison on charges of corruption and weapon smuggling.

You may remember Yee as being a vocal opponent of video game violence - he campaigned for tighter restrictions around the sale of games and a state-backed ratings board to replace the current US-wide ESRB.

Yee admitted political corruption charges - accepting bribes for favours - and involvement in a never-completed plan to smuggle guns into the US from the Philippines.
This is hilarious. He's like a character from GTA. And I wouldn't be surprised if a parody version of him appears in the next one. Make no mistake, he's not worse than the vast majority of other so called "representatives". He's just the one unlucky enough to get caught.

Lol, it just boggles my mind how over-conservative people can be.

I mean, this gun-smuggling ************ is, well, a gun smuggler, and he was sincerely against video games.

Like white supremacist's opposing Music as a subject in school or something.

Meh. The crime is too unrelated to his videogame stance for this to be ironic. Corruption is not violence.

Now if the guy had instead been jailed for domestic abuse or something, that would have been the comical level of hypocrisy that we've come to expect from self-righteous politicians and closet-gay preachers.

Well wanting to censor digital violence while contributing to real violence is pretty ironic in my eyes.

....Seriously? Seriously? "Games cause violent, now pardon me as I sell guns to...I don't know, probably gangs."

Jesus Fucking Christ this country.

This is only just now being done? I thought he was arrested quite a while back.

Anyway, this guy is insanely corrupt and hypocritical. Supporting gun control and pushing a law to restrict the sale of video games, while smuggling guns is just the start. He's also accused of taking bribes from all sorts of sources. These bribes include taking money from an unnamed NFL team owner to support legislation, tech companies, and even for support for medical marijuana.

If there is a list for corrupt politicians in the US, he deserves to be in the Top 10.

What are you trying to say? Yee was a Democrat, so certainly more liberal leaning. He was also very pro gun control. This isn't a conservative vs liberal thing. These people who want to censor or restrict the sales of video games aren't coming from one party or another. It's more like Old vs Young.

Only five years? Sounds like he's getting off easy. Using your position as a federal politician to smuggle weapons into the country illegally isn't exactly something that I think we should go lighter on than possession of a few buds of weed.
Well, fortunately, he wasn't smuggling anything dangerous, like video games.

I mean, this IS America. A country where people will say it's not neglectful to take a picture of your toddler holding a loaded .357. I'm surprised gun smuggling is even a crime. Unless...was he giving them to blacks or Muslims? Because that's the only time we seem to start to worry about gun control.

Fuck's sake, why is it every time the Philippines is mentioned somewhere in video games news it's always bad?

I remember reading about this a while back as the charges were being made. Such is the ridiculous blind hypocrisy of too many a politician. Doubtful he didn't wangled his way to a 5 year sentence through the usual system gaming. Justice implied but not implemented. Can't be as bad as the Chilcot enquiry though, Tony Blair is still smugging about all free of war crimes, acting the moral teacher and making millions. A disheartening irony.

I have to agree, he's just the usual corrupt piece of shit. Corruption does contribute to all manner of crimes, including violent, but it's not like he had cash in his freezer.

Isn't that how plea deals are supposed work?

One admits their guilt, waiving a trial in return for considerations on reducing the severity of their sentence.

He was also so incredibly anti-gun(politically) that you'd think him even thinking of the word would cause severe burns. So, I'd say this is incredibly ironic and totally hilarious.

He was(thinking) he was selling them to triads, along with various anti-tank weapons.

He's a bit too much like what they've already done and GTAV already covers California for the next few years, but next time around I'd totally beg Rockstar for it to happen.

Considering where his politics were publicly, you can rightfully say he was disarming the very people he was endangering.

I want to say that this is funny but it's really not. Now all we need to know if any of the guns this fuckwit smuggled ended up in the hands of school shooters or mass murderers.
