Ok, so after seeing how awesome some LPs of Dorf Fort are (Reveredtour, Boatmurdered), I've decided to start my own succession fortress. Each fortress owner will control the fortress for one year, from Spring to Spring. I'm going to have a few of my friends go after me, after which it's first-come-first-serve.
If you want in on this fortress, send me a PM. I'll assign people to lead the fortress in the order I receive PMs. If you take more than a week to complete your turn, all progress you made will be forfeit and the fortress will revert to the previous save.

Finally! We're here! After a harsh journey from the mountainhomes, into the forbidding wilderness beyond, our harsh trek has finally ended. Our party of seven is to make an outpost for the glory of all Luslemkivish, The Puzzling Lancer. There are almost no supplies left, but with the stout labour at my disposal will come sustenance, and I will provide for these dwarves. We're expecting a supply caravan just before Winter entombs us, but it is Spring now. Enough time, I'm sure, to delve secure lodgings, ere the wolves get hungry. A new chapter of dwarves history begins here at this place, Nishkir, "Trademerged". Strike the earth, my brothers!
Thanks to the crappy navigational skills of some other dwarf and certainly not me, we ended up on a mountain...
with a sheer cliff on one side.
Thankfully, without even having to dig into the mountain or deeper into the earth, there is already exposed magnetite! This will be a jumpstart to our metal industry, and the sand just lying around will help make glass. This looks to be a promising fortress from the very start!
7th Felsite, 126
I struck gold!
..in the refuse area. Wonderful.
14th Hematite, early Summer, 126
Mining is tiring work! I keep falling asleep on the job.
And I've quite a way to go yet. I still have to dig out the sleeping quarters:
The path to the gold that doesn't go through corpses:
And of course, the graveyard, with my mausoleum at the end there:
19th Hematite, 126
Hooray! Migrants! Some of them will have to help me mine, if we're to get this fortress up and running quickly.
After looking over their skills, it seems...
it took all of 3 months, 13 days for a soap maker to arrive. I don't know why soap making seems to be such a popular pastime among our race, but i'll just have to endure it.
26th Galena, 126
One of the migrants informed me that limonite, which is everywhere around our fortress, is an ore of iron! Our metalsmithing industry will be the talk of all Puzzling Lancer!
11th Sandstone, 126, Mid-Autumn
More migrants! In the time since these ones and the ones before arriving, the fortress has developed quite well. Our metalsmithing industry is up, but not the glass or trap-making ones, yet.
16th Timber, 126, Late Autumn
Hooray! The dwarven merchants, and the outpost liaison have arrived! It's certainly been a long time since we left from the Mountainhomes, and I hope to hear of news. To be honest, starting up a fortress isn't as exciting as everydwarf would have you think.
He wanted to know what we wanted to purchase from the merchants next year, and gave me lists and asked me to mark off what I wanted.
Never enough traps
Don't want to waste our iron on making bolts, I guess.
Nothing that interes.... IS THAT LAY PEWTER?!?!?!
Two hundred percent for lay pewter?
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!
Before he concluded the meeting, he gave me a list of items that are in demand from the mountainhomes. I shall leave it here for my replacement to see once he gets here.
Immediately after the meeting, I was told that Asmel has become more distant, which is odd, considering she makes friends quickly, and enjoys the company of others.
But... I won't be the leader next year.
Asmel kept drawing pictures of skeletons, so I mined out an area for a butcher's workshop, and had someone slaughter the mule foal. This was apparently what she wanted, as she got its bones immediately and went back into the workshop.
Some time later:
23rd Moonstone, 126, Early Winter
I've ordered the construction of many many cage traps, for defence when the new leader arrives.
1st Granite, 127, Early Spring
And with that, it's time for me to hand over control of the fortress. My replacement, I realise with embarrassment, is Ustuth Oslanakath, the soap maker I made fun of on his arrival.
That was fun! If only I had more than a year. I'm handing it over to my irl friend, dantallion.
