For some reason people dislike WWII shooters. I never understood why. Many tell me that there are way to many out there all ready, and that they are boring. Really?

See, I just watched the first 10 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. And it makes me think that WWII games need a reboot. Possibly the biggest problem is that there aren't many games out there that really grab at the mood, feel, and action of WWII. Probably the best WWII game out there is COD: WAW, which would have been amazing if the graphics were better and the campaign was longer. I think we need another COD: WAW. Yet everybody's reaction is "We're sick of WWII."

It's sort of like saying you're sick of eating ice cream when what you've been eating is really just frozen horse semen with eggs.

Just look at the opening scenes in the previously mentioned movie. They're dark, gritty, exciting, horrific, and all around amazing. So, tell me, what would it take to get that in a game?

Wait a few months. Those things come out biannually. They're more common than moody indie platformers.

It would take more discreet battles (Italy?) More content, more opportunities, and more interaction. Certainly better graphics(Apparently game developers JUST RECENTLY learned that making everything glossy isn't realistic?) Also, It would require important and prominent ally characters that are persistent until the end, whatever that may be. Basically, it would have to have a lot of RPG, and possibly RTS elements involved, which is typically rare.

That depends on one question -
Can you find any other antagonists that you can shoot and kill, real humans, without felling remorse besides Nazies?
Yes.
Zombies and variations (necromorphs and such)
Space Nazies (*cough* Hellgast *cough*)

I want a Battlefield 1944 next, DICE.

Just make it a HD, destructable remake of all the maps on 1942 and we're good, 'kay? None of that 'Three maps, all Pacific' shit.

I'd love another Brothers in Arms, but that's not gonna happen, due to tragic circumstances.
It's even more disheartening when Hells Highway ended with 'To be continued'.

And what's wrong with killing Nazi soldiers? So you've killed em before as sprites in wolfenstein. But what if devs could capture the humanity in some? What if they could be more real instead of mere bullet receptacles?

You want to "capture the feel" of WWII, then suggest World at War? What?

I suggest you try Brothers in Arms some time, you'll never go back to CoD.

How about a World War II city sim where you have to support the war effort and keep people from starving to death by correctly handing out foot stamps and rationing your supplies. You also have to refit car factories into military factories and correctly handle public responses after things like Pearl Harbor!

Why not a Dynasty Warrior-style WWII game? (Not as in, you run around killing the shit out of everything, but you have units roaming around and occasionally you'll be told to do something like, "Plant the C4 on the Western bridge to delay enemy reinforcements!" and running around to save other units by flanking the enemy and such.

Still, I'd like to see the most famous battles done right. I want to see D-day. I want to see Stalingrad. And I want to see them done well, and to stay true to actual battles and events. I'm talking the most realistic and historically accurate WWII game to date. Sure, more discreet battles are okay, but we need to see the big ones done correctly first.

That exactly is a factor in creating the BEST shooter experience ever.
Too bad it's a risk game developers don't take, trying to humanize their antagonists and making you feel bad for killing them since it sometimes isn't just for self defense.
I had a scene in my mind once, set in a fictional shooter game in which you are a civilian forced upon you to become an armed "freedom fighter" or terrorist, depends on who you're asking, that shoots a soldier and kills him. Then you go into a shock state and start vomiting after you've realized you've killed a man (all in first person). THAT is an experience to remember.

Funny. Once I tried Brothers in Arms, I couldn't run back to CoD fast enough. I've only played HH and the PSP one, though.

OT:

I still like WW2 games. BRING 'EM ON.

Here's one for a twist. How about where you play as a nazi? Can't think of any games off hand that have you playing as the bad guys.

I like both. I'm not a fan of Cod, but WaW did the pacific campaign some justice. And brothers in arms...it's okay. But I prefer the graphical and combat styles of WaW, it was just more gritty.

Stalingrad wasn't a battle.
Stalingrad was a siege.
It was a siege that lasted for months, vicious urban fighting and close querters insane melee fights for your life, lines being broken and shifted as houses trade hands every day.
That CAN'T be A SINGLE battle.

Just don't make me storm the beaches of Normandy again. They invaded South France too at around the same time. I know it's not as cinematic, but let's try that one.

You could even make an entire game based around the Eastern Front. Or China. I can't recall a single WW2 shooter where you play the Chinese or British in East and South-East Asia.
