Watching any good anime recently? What are some of the best anime, in your opinion? How about worst? Has anybody seen Garzey's Wing?

I'm almost finished Steins;Gate and I've enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a good mix of silly and serious, though it get's a bit heavy in the later half. I'll probably post a bit more when I'm done the last couple episodes.

Rewatched Megalobox. A great boxing anime that is getting a second season. I'm shocked it's getting another one. I knew it did well, but not that well.

I still have to get started on My Hero Academia S4. I've already been seen S3, and got the box sets for it on sale a few weeks ago. I'll keep you guys and gals posted.

I suppose this is a good thread to get my thoughts out on One Piece.

I'm on episode 902 of One Piece, about twenty behind, and all I can think about is if I'm still watching it to see what happens or simply because I've sunk days of my life into watching it. We have to be at least 60-65% of the way to the end at this point and the author is still adding in new characters and plot points. Dozens of each. I'm starting to wonder if most of them will even get a satisfying conclusion. Which is half the investment in the series. Everyone who watches the show wants to know what One Piece is, where it's at, what secrets is the World Government hiding, and so on. Instead of concluding those, it just adds more and more until people can't keep track. The mysteries being some of the most enticing part about One Piece, it would be shite to see bullshit endings.

Next up, the fights. The pacing in the anime has been slaughtered by pointless filler and an ever growing length of build-up episodes. You're telling me Luffy and Zoro, people who have taken down some absurdly powerful people, are having trouble with two idiots called Batman and Gazelleman? It's "humor" that exists to drag the show out to a twenty minute run time. Someone once described the show as thinking of focusing way to much on the joke fights and I agree completely. Fights that should be epic, Luffy vs Cracker or Katakuri are ruined by frequent cut-aways and multiple joke segments. The sudden change makes it worse! Dressrosa had two of the best fights in the series, then we get two disappointing ones in Whole Cake Island. Wano has been a build-up since Hazard Punk. I legit do not think I have it in me to continue the series if it doesn't get better. The worst thing is, I don't know if this is an anime thing, the writer thing, or a me thing. Alright, One Piece complaining over.

On other anime, I suppose I should really pick up My Hero Academia again. What I've seen has really impressed me since they actually put considerable love into their animations and pacing, probably because they don't do an episode a week almost the whole year and do seasons. I suppose I should also try and finish GAMERS! Had some pretty fun moments in it.

Curious for some recommendations. I got Bleach (already started a bit), Hunter X Hunter, Demon Slayer, and Naruto on my watchlist. Anything I should go through first?

I read more comics and manga these days cuz they are a lot faster to go through. The anime industry is too commercialized and usually won't go past one season.

I like Hunter X Hunter but the pacing gets hit by a train in the last season. It's so weird because the show was pretty well paced for most of it until it slams on the brakes and is seriously almost DBZ Freeza Arc level for a while.

As for recommendations, I can't recommend One Punch Man enough if you haven't seen it.

One manga I've been meaning to get to for a while is that Pokemon one where the Arbok gets cut in half.

For the current season, eizouken is easily the stand out title. If you like the idea of an anime about anime production you should watch it. (there's also shirobako that was pretty great from a few year back).

Otherwise, as far as stand out title in the recent pass that maybe didn't get that much coverage, there's Kaguya-sama (good comedy), zombie land saga (idol show, almost a parody, the first 2 episodes are amazing, sadly it becomes more and more a typical idol show as it goes one), ascendance of bookworm (a different take on isekai, if you want something close-ish to spice and wolf it's probably the best you can do), Grimgar (isekai where the main character aren't OP, probably the best depiction of grief in anime), Asobi asobase (weird comedy), pop team epic (if you're really into meme humor), Keijo!!!! (fan service vehicle that's actually pretty good), laid back camp/Yuru camp (slice of life about camping, super comfy, probably my favorite show of the last couple of years), a place further than the universe (drama/cute girl doing cute things, pretty darn good).

As far as worse, there's this anime from last year called price of simle, if you need any proof that mech anime are dead and not coming back, look no further.

I watched 2/3 of the first season and was massively disappointed. It looks good (when not in movement) and has a great soundtrack, but that's it. The box fight are so boring, there's no interesting sakuga moment, the fight choreography is piss poor and I don't think a single person who worked on the show know anything about box beyond "its the sport where people punch each other". Joe himself is a boring nobody who is terrible at boxing but win because he has plot armor and can survive a million mechanically enhanced punch to the face while somehow knocking most fighter in one punch. He doesn't earn any of his win and almost all of his opponent are more interesting than him (slight spoiler: if you haven't watched the show, imagine one character is a former soldier who lost limbs in the war and was driven almost to suicide but found renewed purpose in boxingand the other character is a guy named Joe, which one do you think should be the main character?).

I've read that manga until around they finished the Kanto arc. The other arcs from what I've seen, while decent, aren't as engaging, and they keep trying to cram the protagonists from the original. I'm more invested in Festival of Champions since it's made by a guy who clearly loves Pokemon and wants to write to an older audience.

Beastars is pretty good. I mean, it takes place in high school, but the characterisation, especially of the female leads, feels very refreshing. For a show about weirdo animal people it feels more sexually liberated than any other anime I've ever seen.

Currently rewatching the entire 110 episodes of Legend of the Galactic Heroes. I love this show so much. The way they folded the clash of different worldviews into the narrative is sheer genius. The characters are ace as well. Season 3 probably also has only intro I never skipped. :p

Also Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I'd go with parts 3 to 5: Stardust Crusaders, Diamond Is Unbreakable and Golden Wind. Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency are ok, but not as fun and creative by comparison.

I watched a review of Beastars and it just might be that one in a million anime I'll actually want to watch. When the English dub comes out, that is. inb4 "Japanese better", cartoons aren't real people (or beast-people in this case) nobody cares what language you dub them in

I thought the show was good overall despite a few hick ups. The part with the soldier was one of my favorite episode. He would sounds interesting as a main character, but honestly, I would be depressed to follow this guy's story. Maybe the 2nd season will improve upon the problems you had. I don't know, but I am hyped.

Smartest statement in the thread, and sub-only anime fans still have not learned from this. This not the old days where bad or mediocre dubbing were almost the norm. The West has been getting nothing but great dubs since 2009/2010. Not to mentioned in the 90s and early 2000s, there are plenty of good, great, or excellent dubs that already exists. Also, if the majority cast ain't Japanese or don't take place in Japan, like say in Gunsmith Cats (mids 90s Chicago), Hellsing (England), or Berserk (Western Fantasy setting) it makes even less since. I highly doubt a majority of non-Japanese people want to hear the entire population of Chicago speak Japanese. Shit like this why I refused to join the anime club in my first year of college. The club was made up of people who looked down on others for not watching anime in their "original" language. A majority of the people in the club were white, and two, none of them ever bothered to study Japanese last I checked, so they're being pretenders if anything really. Sub-only fans tend forget there are some anime where the English dub came first. Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust is a good example. The FLCL sequels also premiered in America first too before a release in Japan.

Speaking of anime, I am going to marathon Castlevania Season 3 when it comes out in March.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I've been waiting for Beastars to show up on netflix before I watched it, plus I'm working on Stranger Things at the moment. But some past anime that are great are
Land of the Lustrious (Made by the studio that did Beastars, its a great story with fantastic cg and an ending that isnt really an ending, which is annoying.)

Mob Psycho 100 season 1 and 2 (Made by the Creator of One Punch Man, stars a kid who is an extremely powerful psychic and realizes how useless that kind of is, really really good)

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (A highshooler show with some super natural aspects and the best love story I have seen in anything, that includes Doom guy and the super shotgun.)

Made in Abyss (2 Kids explore the abyss, a massive hole in the middle of an island with strange relics. One of the best looking animes around with a really interesting story and it holds no punches.)

There are other good ones like Demon Slayers, Flip Flappers, Mushi Shi, My Hero Academia, etc etc.

I don't understand Japanese. For example I watch Ghibli movies (and Disney or Dreamworks or so on) in my native Finnish.

I don't understand Japanese either but I wouldn't watch anime in English or my native Spanish (which invariably means having to pick between the horrible Mexican dub or the douby horrible Spain!Spanish dub). This isn't an anime "thing" either, I just think dubbing in general takes away from the original thing. To each their own but the "nobody cares what language you dub them in" is dead wrong.

Dubbed over the original audio, mein herr.
