So Escapist, what are your thoughts on tattoos? Do you have one? If so, tell us about it. Has your tattoo ever affected your life in any noticeable way?

Furthermore, does someone having a tattoo affect your judgement of them?

Personally, I've always wanted to get three lions tattooed on me, but not on my arms or legs or anywhere it's immediately apparent. (I'm a sucker for national pride)

I don't have any tattoos. I was planning on getting one once, but never did, and now I think that it was the right choice. Tattoos can be beautiful, but also very tacky. Suicide girls are in general pretty with their tattoos. Miami Ink was a show that I used to watch, and they made some great ones. However, I have a friend that has a tattoo which I think is mostly tacky, and my sister has words as tattoos, which is also pretty tacky IMO.

I have one on my upper right arm. It's one of those treble/bass clef hearts with some music notes beneath it. I don't think it's ever affected anything, but when I was studying abroad in Japan my host mom freaked out a little when it was finally warm enough for me to wear short sleeves that showed it. I might get another one on my side eventually, of a cherry blossom tree, but probably not for a while because I don't have the money.

Obviously I don't mind tattoos, then; even when people have a lot. And some tattoos can be really beautiful. That said, I don't think you should get tattoos just for the sake of having them. It's like any other art; it has to be something that means something to you. If you just get something for the hell of it to look cool, it's a waste of money.

I like them but would never ever get one, not due to pain but due to the fear it would either instantly or in 5 years be viewed by me as a horrible mistake. I have an issue with things that are permanent as well as things that may not stand the test of time and if it has both (and tattoos do!) I find them just utterly unappealing.

Yet still I do have this love for them and just a massive respect for the artists that do them because the ones that are good are just fantastic, the ones on most people I have dated are fantastic I just fear mine could never be decent let alone good and never mind fantastic. Also I get it i am 27 but my body "Dine growing" vut it is far from done changing and thus tattoo shape still changes so will it stay awesome even if at one point it was? I do not think so.

I find it somewhat off-putting if someone has more tattoos than skin on display, adn that probably has some subconscious effect on how I view them, but I try to cancel that out. As for a more reasonable amount of tattooing, yeah, I'm good with it. I haven't got any, but someday I may consider it.

Also, it a coincedence that I just watched this, then logged on and found this thread?

I highly recommend anyone with about 20 minutes free to watch this.

I don't mind tattoos, but they can be awesome or horrible. Same with my perception of them, while in general I could care less, if you have something like WEEABOO 4 LYFE tattooed across your forehead, I might jump to some conclusions about you.

Anyway, I have three and I'm in the process of getting rid of two of them. Anyone ever have a tattoo removed before? It feels like holding a hot iron down on your skin repeatedly in the same area of your skin, incredibly painful.

I have a stylistic phoenix in black lines and red/orange/yellow colors on my right upper arm. Just high enough to be covered by a normal T-shirt. The only effect it has had on my life was people complimenting me on it. How it was pretty, rather than the usual tribal/name/etc tattoo's you see a lot. And then me having to explain why I got it and such. But nothing else really.

I have a love/hate relationship with tattoos. Some of the best ones are simply amazing, and on the right canvas they fill me with awe. Then there are those that are laughably terrible and don't do an awful lot for my impression of the person sporting them. But the majority of tattoos are just 'alright'. If they have personal meaning, that's fine, but it's a little showing strangers finger paintings your four year old did. They're not that great to look at, and they don't mean a damn thing to me. That said, I've always sort of wanted one and am ashamed of myself for it.

People who refer to tattoos as 'ink', though... that irritates me for irrational reasons. There might have been a time when having a tattoo was cool and edgy, but these days they're pretty run of the mill. I have issues with people who see tattoos as some sort of status symbol, or an artistic extension of themselves. I don't know why, it's just one of those things.

I personally don't have a tattoo, though I would not be apposed to having one should I find something that I really wanted to get permanently engraved onto my skin.

There are tons of tattoos that I dislike though, and I tend to judge the people that have them more harshly for having them. Personally, I hate tattoos with skulls on them for the sake of having skulls, I hate the stupid prison style spider webs, the douchey tribal tattoos, and the thing that I hate most are facial tattoos. Whenever someone has any of these tattoos I tend to stay far away from them and not want to associate with those people because I feel like they're idiots with poor decision making skills.

Well fuck the lot of you, I have a tribal tattoo sleeve haha! All picking on lil ol' me!

You these "you should only get a tattoo of something that means something to you" why? Can't people just treat there skin like a blank canvass and make it look more interesting?

My tattoo obviously means fuck all but I love it, I think it looks awesome. As for how others see me, I don't care what they think and I'm not just saying it to the "haters" whether you like it or not I don't care ... obviously I would prefer you to like it but doesn't bother me either way.

I might get more meaningless tattoos, I might get ones with meaning but letting others dictate what is ok and what isn't with tattoos is annoying. I don't like to see gaming tattoo's or tramp stamps but they're cool by me 'cos they aren't on me.

Just look at this ...

I've got better decision making skills than those who drink till they can't stand and I wouldn't say I'm an idiot.

What I choose to tattoo onto myself should have no bearing on how I am treated, me being a dick should make you avoid me.

It's like this

I could just as easily say something like "I don't like people who have no tattoo's 'cos they are boring or just scared" but that's not true, plenty of people have no tattoos for loads of reasons but I wont judge them for it.

Wow, you have better decision making skills than people who drink until they can't stand? Well color me fucking impressed. Maybe you should hold yourself to a better standard than just "well I'm better than the lowest common denominator." Then again, at least you didn't say "I have better decision making skills than junkies who OD on heroine," so I guess that's something.
Pulling no punches tonight, huh?

I'm going to leave you to it 'cos I'm not getting any mod attention for your offensive and wild generalizations.

I'd suggest being more open minded though.

I answered the OP's question truthfully, it's not my fault that you felt insulted by my point of view toward tribal tattoos. I also didn't put any words in your mouth, you're the one who decided to compare yourself to drunken imbeciles as a favorable comparison.

Tattoos are an enormous eh to me. Depends on the person wearing them, depends on the location of the tattoo, depends on how many tattoos a person has, depends on the tattoo itself. Normally I don't judge people for having enormous tattoos, even people who have sleeves of green fire and skulls and shit. They're just 'eh', kind of like piercings.

If I ever were to get a tattoo, for whatever reason, I'd go for a small bass clef in a spot that's easily hidden by clothing. But there's a good chance I'll never do that.

And I have a thing for tattooed girls, that helps my opinion of tattoos.

Yay, tattoo's!
I love them, haven't got any yet due to it being completely illigal to get one before 18 in australia but my 18th is just around the corner.
My sister's actually a tattoo artist so she'll be doing a moderate sized piece for me a few days after my birthday.
So give me three years and I'll be covered.

I have a biohazard symbol on my spine, just below my neck line. It hasn't affected my professional life at all since it is well hidden while I am clothed. It has sparked conversations in my social life easily though. "Do you have any tattoos?" is a safe and easy question to ask as a pick up line. As for description, I just tell women to pull down the back of my shirt (just slightly) in order to see it. Great icebreaker, great conversation piece.

The downside is that I am blood type O- (the universal donor). After getting a tattoo, I would have to wait one year before giving blood again. I only have the one tattoo which I got several years ago so donation hasn't been an issue. But considering tragedies that have happened around the Texas-Oklahoma area as of late, the local blood center treats me like a god when I go to give.

When I get new tattoos, it will be several at once so lag time in donations are minimal. I carry liquid gold in my veins and I won't deny humanity a gift given to me any longer than I have to. (Have you given blood before? If not, try it one time, even if you are scared of needles. The feeling of helping save a life, even if anonymously, is priceless.)

I don't have any, because I am terrified of needles, and the idea of laying down to be stabbed over and over and over again just doesn't appeal to me. If I could somehow get one without the repeated needle stabbing, I'd get the Arsenal crest somewhere unobtrusive.

I've thought on and off of getting one, but it isnt something you can easily remove.

I dont want to regret it lets say 20 years down the line, so I do not get tattoos.

Just got my second one on the 30th of May. It's the most visible one I have seeing as I can hide my Zapdos at any time. The biggest change is mostly just people asking what it is/what it means. Depending on who asks, I have different answers. ^.^
