Arrogance in general, really. I have a friend who feels the need to one up everyone. I told him I got New Vegas the other day, and was telling him how pumped I was. He proceeded to say "Well, I got New Vegas and the pre-order pack from Game Stop." He was quite smug with his tone of voice.
Another instance:
A different friend and I are discussing Dragon Age. He asks me how much play time I have on my file. I tell him that I have around 30 hours. The friend I mentioned earlier, who is not a part of the conversation at all, leans in for a moment and says: "Well, I have 45 hours." Thanks for the update.
Yet another instance:
I bought the Orange Box not too long ago. I brought up the fact that I got it to this person so that we could play TF2 together. His initial response: "You just got that? I had it when it came out. I was one of the first people on TF2." (I think he was lying about that last part just to try and impress me.)
Yea, arrogant people really get on my nerves.
And, by the way OP, your avatar is amazing. Thought I'd mention that.
I have a friend like that, but I think she's more of an attention seeker. She tries to one up everyone over the most stupid things. There was me, her and another friend and for some reason they were talking about their childhood. One of my friends, who has MD, said his childhood was difficult because he was in and out of hospital and in a lot of pain and how he hated being confined to a wheelchair.
My other friend came back with, "Yeah, that's nothing. When
I was growing up, my mum was upstairs stoned out of her face and I had to play outside near druggies who lived on my estate. I'm soooooo badly done to."
So yeah, people like that.
also, British people who use American words and spellings. I don't know why it annoys me when I see Brits spell 'mum' as 'mom', probably because I had a couple of friends who watched too much Disney TV and kept spouting stuff like "I was on the side walk when I dropped my soda into a truck!"
English people who put random Japanese words in their speech too. Today I feel so KAWAII! Hai, I'm Emilee-chan, I love my Teddy-chan!
Nooooooo!
