One of the things I deal with while living in Utah is this strange unspoken rule about holidays. Mormons are notoriously protective of Sunday as their day of rest. If a holiday falls on a Sunday, be it Christmas, Halloween, or even the 4th of July, in Utah it's celebrated on Saturday. Yes, this means I celebrated Halloween yesterday.

So, Escapists, what strange things have you noticed about where you live?

That's crazy. Huh.

That's... so cool. I mean, it's probably really annoying/silly to you, if you aren't Mormon, but... huh.

Let's see... Two things off the top of my head, though they aren't very interesting:

1. Almost everyone around here orders "McGangBang"s from McDonald's. Actually... do you know what that is? Is it not just ordering lots of them that's weird? Do they exist outside of Eastern NY?

To explain, if people don't know, to have a McGangBang, you order a double cheese burger and a McChicken, and combine them into one sandwich. Not very interesting, but yeah.

2. People around here don't pronounce the letter "t" if it's in the middle of a word. For example, "Britain (brIH-tin)" is pronounced "bri'ain (brIH-in)". If that makes sense.

That's... a pretty lame list. I'm sorry. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Halloween on Saturday... that's... that's so crazy...

In Colorado, it's not uncommon to see someone with a $2000 mountain bike on top of their $500 car.

And we make fun of pretty much every other state for having an accent, because we don't.

Yeah, pretty lame, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

You forgot the $900 snowboard and $700 in various equipment for the same.

But... I thought Mormons were a denomination of Christianity? Wouldn't they be more inclined to celebrate Christmas on a Sunday? Sorry if this comes off as horribly offensive.

On topic: Around here you're likely to get stabbed if you go to a city centre after 12:00 AM. The likely hood of getting stabbed doubles if you have a combination of long hair and a Y chromosome. Yay for the South East of England!
