Loki Surprises Marvel Studios' Comic-Con Panel

Tom Hiddleston surprised the audience at the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con with an unexpected and full-on appearance as Loki.

"We're in post-production of a movie called Thor: The Dark World right now," the Marvel man at Comic-Con said, right before his microphone went dead and the lights went out. The next voice to be heard wasn't his, but one rather more familiar: that of actor Tom Hiddleston, who stood on the stage in full Loki regalia and mannerisms when the lights came up.

It's hard to tell whether his smile is that of a malevolent god lording over mewling quims or simply an actor enjoying the adulation of the crowd - worship either way, I suppose - but he certainly nails the moment. And when he exhorts the audience to "Say my name" - and the audience eats it up - you just can't help but wonder if that whatshisface guy who plays Thor could pull off the same thing. (The correct answer, by the way, is "no.")

Thor: The Dark World, starring Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Chris O'Dowd, Ray Stevenson, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgard, Christopher Eccleston, Rene Russo and that whatshisface guy, hits U.S. theater screens on November 8.

I want Loki and Red Skull together as joint bad guys in a Marvel movie.

There will be teeth marks in all the sets AND IT WILL BE GLORIOUS.

This is why Marvel will always be better than DC :D

When was the last time Batman did anything like this?

Gah, I can't wait for the Joss Whedony goodness of Avengers 2.

That is quite a few names of good actors in that movie. I haven't even watched the first Thor yet, but maybe I should. (I've watched The Avengers at least.)

Hiddleston is pretty cool.

Geez, the ladies sure seem to love that guy. (either that, or the fanboy screams coming from the crowd were particularly... enthusiastic).

Regardless, you've got to say, he sure as hell knows how to work a crowd. And you can tell he loved every second of that.

Well done on Tom's part, the guy commits himself to his roles and does a fantastic job. Even if his was a small part, I remember him being very memorable as Magnus in the UK version of Wallander.

Watching this did make me wonder; when we're at the point that Tom Hiddleston being Loki on stage gets what is pretty much the same response as you'd expect a boyband to be given, I have to wonder if the nerd takeover of popular culture has gone too far. :p

And I say that as someone who would have been in the middle of that crowd screaming and swooning right alongside the rest of them if I could. ;)

I'm not even a Hiddleston fangirl, but that made me giggle like a little girl. He was having so much fun with that, so cute.

That was a really fun performance! It's cool of the actors to take the time to dress up and do stuff like this!

I think he slipped out of character, just a teeny bit, when it got a bit too much. There was a laugh that was Tom Hiddleston chuckling at how boss he was being before he went back to gnawing the set.

That was cool.

Last year was Deadpool, this year is Loki. And both instances were pretty amusing. Marvel's on a roll with these guys!

Well, somebody doesn't seem to like Chris Hemsworth.

OT: Yeah, that was cool.

Geez, man. Want a toothpick to get that scenery outta your teeth?

That was glorious, though. Major props to all involved.
