Look, Nintendo, I promise to buy a WiiU as soon as you release a decent pokemon game for it.

Just throwing that out there. Pretty sure I'm not the first person to say it, and I know I won't be the last, but I'll already be draining my pocket money in the next few weeks to pick up a 3DS (possibly used) and a new copy of Pokemon X or Y.

Now just take that, combine it with the WiiU's HD graphics, non-turn based poke-combat, your absurd controller's ability to be used as a gimmick for the pokemon game in a million different ways (using it as a command screen, using it as a way to capture pokemon in pokeballs, to name 2 ways), and I swear to god I will shell out 400 bucks, drive down to my local gamestop, and buy the damn console. Seriously. Take what you've done on handhelds for years, move it to the big screen, and make the combat a little more immersive (if not action-packed Mortal-Kombat style moves, at least FFXIII style), and copies will fly off the shelves. Guarantee it.

...Just what I thought about when I read this week's Extra Punctuation about nostalgia and what's good/bad about it. Cause if Nintendo really wants people to take their console seriously, this would be a damn good first step. It's not even that I don't want to play games on it, there just hasn't been a game worth buying the system for.

So y'know. Get on that.

sigh... I just did what the ad told me to for the captcha, please don't tell me I got it wrong and show me another one, that's just insulting. And also, lousy marketing.

Yea the open world 3D pokemon, with online trading/battling game that everyone wants.

I actually like to imagine this game was made years ago and its at Nintendo HQ in a glass case which reads "In case of emergency break glass".

I have always wondered why Nintendo haven't done this.

Are they waiting for hardware to be good enough to make the game exactly how they want to, or do they just feel like the main games should stay console only?

It would take a while to make such a game now since they've got a lot of pokemon to make models for.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo uses Pokemon as it's staple handheld game. They use it to help move handhelds and give the systems something unique from their consoles. In the same way, you don't see games like Pikmin on the handheld systems.

If Nintendo made a Pokemon game for the Wii U, it would probably be Pokemon Stadium 2 or something along those lines. Not sure if that would move systems, but I'm sure it would make some Pokemon fans happy.

nintendo have always been exceptionally good at ignoring public demand. I don't know whether to respect them for it or just assume they've got their heads stuck so far up their asses they just can't see what's happening around them.

There has been a huge demand for a console-based pokemon game ever since I can remember. the fact that they still haven't made one (the reportedly horrible gamecube ones don't count) just shows that they have no clue how to operate in the market.

Admittedly, the pokemon formula works better as a handheld game. That, however, isn't a good enough reason not to make one for a console. especially when looking at just how many people want one.

I don't think Nintendo need any encouragement to create more remakes/rehashings/re-releases of their old games/franchises. They grind away on the leg of nostalgia far too much in creating their release lists, so you don't need to prompt them to invest in this methodology further.

On a lighter note: I enjoyed Pokemon Snap on the Gamecube and the mini-games of the Pokemon Colosseum games, so something similar to these would be welcomed. But I wouldn't make it my first next-gen console purchase on the basis of one of these releases. My sister however...

I'm still hoping that Masuda will change his mind about a new Pokemon Snap for WiiU. I'd buy the hell out of that.

Why does the combat need to change? Maybe make it a bit more animated in appearance, but it's mechanically fine. If you want action-based gameplay you have basically every big-budget modern game and even most lower budget ones. There's no need to convert our few turn-based franchises to real-time.

Yes, because Nintendo's last few attempts at bringing Pokemon to home consoles worked out so well the last few times...

The reason Nintendo probably isn't bringing a Pokemon game to Wii U very quickly is because, traditionally, Pokemon has done horribly on their home consoles, and that includes the most recent one on the Wii [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Battle_Revolution]. Maybe they were decent back during the N64 days (only tried one of them and can't even remember what I felt at the time), but their recent streak with the Gamecube and Wii was really terrible. Consequently, they may not view it as worthwhile.

That, or they were waiting to release the handheld version and have plans to release a home console version that links to X&Y within the next few years. That also seems likely, but it will probably just be another mediocre cash-in.

Wii U is already a console-scaled DS...

Why not just make Pokemon X/Y, or any 3DS game portable to the console?

Gamefreak and Nintendo have repeatedly stressed that they aren't interested in putting a mainline Pokemon (or even something like you hypothesize) onto consoles. You can beg until the end of the world but it's just not going to happen.

More likely, however, is their executives laughing at the idea and saying "consumers don't want this!"

While I wouldn't mind seeing a game like you propose, it probably won't ever happen, or at least not for a long time. The main guys over at Gamefreak have repeatedly stated they are opposed to making a console main series Pokemon game. They feel the best model for the series is to keep it on handhelds, which makes some sense.

Maybe someday we will get a really good spin-off series of console Pokemon games. Poke Smash Bros. anyone? :D

I would never ever ever want a MMO Pokemon game or a main series title on a living room console. The internet has done a fine job proving why the former would be a horrible idea, and the latter...eh, call me old fashioned, but to me half the fun of Pokemon is...y'know...the pocket element of it.

That aside though...

Give us another game like Colosseum/XD or PokePark 3 and yeah, I will be ready to hand you my money.

While I agree with most of the peeps on here (I was not a fan of PokePark), I am all for a Pokemon Stadium game on the Wii U, or a XD: Gale of Darkness remake with the addition of the current roster (with multi-player Stadium stage, of course).

MAKE IT HAPPEN, NINTENDO!!

There already was a Pokemon Stadium 2. It was on the N64 and allowed you to trade in monsters from Gen II carts just like the first Pokemon Stadium allowed trading in from Gen I carts. Then there was Pokémon Colosseum on Gamecube which allowed trading from Gen III carts. After that, Pokémon Battle Revolution on the Wii, which allowed trading in from Gen IV carts.

Gotta say, I love seeing people who ***** about Nintendo knowing fuck all or very little about the company and its IPs.
