I'm looking for a Destop for gaming at around £500.
I would rather not make my own and I don't know where to start
any suggestions or websites that I could use?

You could have a look at overclockers, I believe they have some machines are around that price range. I got mine for £750.

What spec did you get for your £500? I had a quick look and saw an AMD FX4100 rig for £500ish which wasn't too bad aside from the processor.

I know it's hard to build one yourself, but would you consider buying one for £400 and then installing a £100 graphics card? It's significantly easier than building one yourself, and you get a lot of bang for your buck. I'd also recommend switching out the power drive they give you, as that can make it last longer. Make it a £350 OEM, £50 PSU and £100 graphics card. I'll think of one tomorrow morning and edit it into this post.
ATI 5870 is a good card. just over $100 now-a-days. Throw in some more RAM for good measure and a new PSU. Probably around 500 - 600 watts.

If you have one already, have you considered a motherboard bundle?

Would save you a bunch of cash, if you have a decent PSU/HDD/DVD drive.

I ordered a barebones from Novatech when I wanted to upgrade, and reused my HDD, DVD and video card, and I was quite happy.

A barebones, is a case, PSU, mobo, CPU and memory, all fitted and tested before it's shipped.

You just take the lid off, plug in yer old dvd and HDD, and maybe a new video card, and it's all go :)

Not sure how this looks, it's a bit above budget, as you'll want to add a new video card, but all looks quite nice for the money.

I admit I've not compared it to other posts here, but I've used Novatech and they seem a decent bunch with common sense applied to their returns and warranty dept.

Had a piece blow on me, and talked to them, and after realising I have a clue, offered to take the broken card and courier me a new one, instead of having me send in the whole PC.
