Yeah, really, I remember, I got sucked into Oblivion and it didn't let me go until I'd finished everything, twice.

Seriously, good game, worth every penny.

It depends on what you mean by "text-based." Are you intending for an Interactive Fiction game or a roguelike. I know a few in the latter category if you're interested.

Oblivion isn't text-based, but damn is it good. I think it's EXACTLY what you are looking for.

I got bored of it after 200-300 hours of playing it...

It has to have some humor!
Kingdom Of Loathing [http://www.kingdomofloathing.com/]. The alpha and the omega of humorous text-based RPGs from which all others seek only to imitate.

Now, shoo.

I'd say Oblivion is the best game ever so far. If you want a funny text based fantasy game then you should play the Dungeonman games from Homestar Runner :p

Ancient Domains of Mystery [www.adom.de]

It's simple, it's huge, it's insanely detailed and best of all, most dungeon levels are randomly generated, so you'll never play the same game twice.

Some dungeon levels are so random that they change when you leave and re-enter them. A pain if they just spawned some ancient artifact of fabulous power.
