Hello everyone,

well, for the first time in many years, I have a gaming-capable laptop (a dell xps 15) and I am looking to play a few games. However, being out of the gaming universe for a few years, I need some help!

I am looking for 3 types of games:

1. a FPS
2. a RTS or moba-like
3. a turn by turn or tactical one such as FF tactics or Heroes of MM

my main constraints are that my playing time is usually limited and random (depends on my 20-month old daughter basically) so that I need games (i) that I can play mostly solo because I cannot commit to a team and don't want to use a mic and talk for instance (so, a solo campaign would be a plus, but single-player multiplayer necessary,i.e., games like Overwatch do not seem optimal); (ii) I can play in 15-30mins or 1-2H (iii) do not need a lot of setup. free action movies [http://watch68.net/movie-genres/action/]

Hence, my priority is to find a FPS with a nice solo campaign and where multiplayer can be played soloQ effectively (when I had a PS4 I used to play Call of Duty). Thus I guess I am looking for one which is not too teamwork-based and just fast paced and frag-oriented to blew off some steam ;-)

Games I have seen that may fit my criteria : Age of Wonders 3, Endless Legends, Banner Saga 2, Battleborn
latest comedy movies [http://watch68.net/movie-genres/comedy/] and watch horror movies online [http://watch68.net/movie-genres/horror/]

THanks for your help!

How many exactly are we talking here?

I'd recommend you these three for starters:
1.Shadow Warrior(2013) - fast paced first person shooter/slasher that lets you blew off some steam.
2.Dawn of War series - WH40K based RTS made by relic
3.Shadowrun:Returns/Dragonfall/Hong Kong - cyberpunk isometric RPGs with turn based combat, albeit bit light on tactical side.

For turn based strategy game, try Mordheim: City of the Damned.

The GOG sale is now on BTW:
https://www.gog.com/

For a single player RTS I'll be really boring and say Starcraft 2. Yes, it has DRM. Kinda, they gave you one game for the price of three, though you can currently get all three for sixty dollars. But the single player campaigns are second to none IMO.

Turn based strategy games that are suitable for short play sessions are kinda rare. You might want to go for a roguelike, say FTL or even just download Nethack. That said, you can pretty much always save and exit when you like or just leave the game running if you need to attend your daughters' needs. In that case maybe try XCOM2 or even get Total War Warhammer.

Best FPS I've played in years is Bioshock Infinite. I played the new Doom PC game demo and really liked it.

Look for games that have save points. The kid will interrupt plenty.

3rd person games any good to you? Other best in a while was Tomb Raider.

Best of luck and enjoy.

For an FPS:

If you want a more tactical minded military FPS, Rainbow Six 3.

If you want just run and gun madness, The Brutal Mod version of Doom 1 and 2.

For RTS:

Medieval 2 Total War.

Empire earth is an rts with a really fun campaign/skirmish mode IMO, you get to play through history with tons of different legends/heroes and conquer different objectives.

(kinda old, so it looks dated, but otherwise a fun game)

as far as FPS go, I would say bioshock infinite and thew new wolfenstein game were ones that I liked in the past 4-5 years, great single player.

one that is on the gog.com sale is "divinity: original sin enhanced edition", it's by far one of my favorite turn based rpg's ever, the combat/gameplay is superb and they recently did an enhanced version that polished it even better (it's single player or co op, if you like rpg's.)

I recently purchased DOOM 2016 for the PS4 and am having a stupid amount of fun with it. I highly recommend it if you have even a passing interest in old school single player shooters. Just don't play it with the wee one in the same room. You'll probably get even more mileage out of the PC version, what with the superior mouse and keyboard setup (though to be fair the controls for the PS4 are admirably responsive) and possibly mods in the future.
