From what I have gathered, the Escapist is a community of avid readers, so I feel this is the best place to ask, any ideas for a good read? A local bookstore is having a buy two get one free sale so I was thinking about getting three good books to read during the summer and maybe during school when it starts again. It can be fiction or nonfiction, novel, philosophical, religious, whatever. I just want something that you think would be a good read. So please just recommend anything that you enjoyed reading or that you have heard very good things about.

If you're into tongue-in-cheek humour, I suggest both The Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox and The Bro Code by Barney Stinson.

The former is a look at everything manly, while the latter is a bible of how Bros should interact with each other and the world.

Personally, I love reading. I read all the time, not a day goes by when I don't. If you like fantasy, The Wheel of Time(Robert Jordan), Wizards first rule(Terry goodkind), or Lion of Macedon(David Gemmell) are all very safe bets. My three favourite books aswell.

I was pretty fond of The Hunger Games by Suzanna Collins. If you're into Steven King, and haven't already read/seen them, Last Stand and The Shining were apparently awesome (have yet to read them myself).

I'm reading the Revelation Space series right now. It's a hard sci-fi space opera trilogy written by Alastair Reynolds. It's got some great characters and great plot hooks that make you want to keep reading. So, check out the first book I guess, Revelation Space.

Also, on a sci-fi side note, one of my all time favorite books is Childhood's End by Arthur C Clarke.

I'm not one to ask. Despite being almost 30, I prefur more innocent stuff aimed at preeteens & books written durring the 1800s.

Gone with the Wind was pretty good.

If you like zombies & have a sence of humor, try "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies." (Read the Dawn of the Dreadfuls" prequel first).

If your're truely morbid, you should enjoy "A Series of Unfortunate Events." I'm really not sure why it's aimed at kids, concidering the theme is murder, arson, theft, & seperation from parents. It doens't even have a happy ending.

I enjoy the Splinter Cell novels. Jarhead By Anthony Swofford is a good read about a true story of Marines during the Persian Gulf war. I was thinking about picking up a copy of Generation Kill Not sure who it's written by, but It'll be easy to find.

I find David Sedaris' work to be extremely hilarious. If you can find audiobooks where he reads, I think it's even better. Barbara Ehrenreich consistently writes social commentary which is well researched, and well presented.

I don't read much in the way of fiction though.

my personal favorite is Stephen King's IT, can read it over and over. Any other Stephen King books as well or if your not big into horror I really liked the Eragon series.

If you're looking for something a bit more light and hilarious, some Douglas Adams is always great. Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy, or Dirk Gently series both made me laugh out loud at points.
If you want something on the opposite end of the spectrum, I like House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, though it is very stylized and a bit tough to read at points because of it, but it's super creepy and gets under your skin.
For fantasy:

There are Splinter Cell novels? Enlighten me sir.
I actually read the first one, its pretty dang good. If you liked the games, or enjoy Tom Clancy novels you will probably like it.

The giver, The catcher in the rye, and Perks of being a Wall Flower are my favorite books of all time.
