Hey guys,

I've got a research study/dissertation to complete for my 3rd year of university.

It's investigating personality, gender differences and sexuality. It takes about 10 minutes to complete and you could be in with a chance to win a £25/$40 Amazon voucher for your troubles.

I'd be really grateful to get some responses.

Thanks.

(Not sure if I'm allowed to ask for participants on here, but I thought I'd give it a shot)

If you want to collect data from this user base, it's best to format it as a discussion, rather than saying "I have a survey, please take it" and leave things at that.

It would have been pretty interesting if you'd done so, since topics about gender and sexuality tend to get some colorful responses, not just here, but elsewhere on the internet as well.

Also some feedback: On page 3, you could benefit from an "Other" or "None" style option especially in a survey about... gender and sexuality.

Unfortunately, as inclusive as it would be, we can't really include options for genders other than males and females as we're comparing how established sex differences (such as empathy, systemising ability, neuroticism and social dominance) between men and women hold up when accounting for sexuality.

So effectively, we're predicting that there will be no difference between heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual males (or females) in their scores on our tests. Basically, a man is a man is a man (or woman).

So since we're comparing these traits for males and females, sadly there's no real room in the study for anybody who does not fall under those categories. Sorry if that sounds exclusive, but we're kinda limited by our literature.

However, there is definitely room for the same study being conducted looking at the responses of people who are not defined by just males and females. Which would be very interesting to look at in the future, depending of course on the results of this study.

Whelp, I did the survey. I kinda wish there was more discussion value to this thread though, as it is an interesting topic.

That was a pretty comprehensive survey o_O I'm used to them taking like three minutes to fill out ^^

Anyway, I'll have to do my own surveys for my third year of university before too long, so I'm thinking if I answer all of them I see karma will reward me :p

And now for the obligatory feedback:p

"Tender" and "warm" are really fuzzy adjectives to describe yourself with. They are both more poetic words than anything I could use to accurately describe myself or others.

"In getting what you want, it is sometimes necessary to use force against other groups." That depends entirely on what it is you want!

Question 12 felt like it negated every other statement. "I like to watch TV", "I don't like trains", "I always panic when I watch horror films", "I never choose gluten free food when it's available" etc. Was that deliberate? Because it was really confusing to fill out o_O

also, what this person said:

Survey is a bit flawed. Doesn't take into account virgins.

Also the community question is weird. Like, i'm in college, straight, gay, bi, trans, men, women, everyone is there. What 'community' would that be? Is "the real world where everyone exists" not an answer?
A lot of complaints here, but still, it was a a better written survey than most I've filled out ^^

Done and dusted and found it fairly comprehensive, I guess it's not so much about your sex life as it is your attitudes towards sex.

I hope I don't come across as too horrible a person. :D

I'm a little younger than the required age, so I went with 16 but survery: done. :)

Very comprehensive, and good luck with your study! Hope I could help.

All the female expressions looked like fucking nothing to me. With the men there were a whole range of ages, characters, and mostly distinct emotions, even if the ones I'd have pegged them as weren't options most of the time. The women were all models with perfectly plucked eyebrows, and as far as I could tell, completely fucking neutral expressions, because the make up and lighting obscured everything. The only clue was when I could attribute some vague emotion to them looking sideways.

Facial expressions were confusing as fuck. One guy looked like the sun was shining in his eyes and all of the females looked exactly the same to me except the one that had one of her eyebrows raised. As for groups i assumed it meant race, doesn't make much sense otherwise.

Your definition of "group" is geared towards gender, right? Because I answered with political, religious and ethnic minorities in mind as well, which shifts a lot of my answers around.

Hope this isn't a silly question, but do Indians(from India) count as Asians?
I live in the UAE and I have no idea if us Indians fall under the Asian category in North America.

Given that whenever I've seen someone from there refer to Asians, it's generally for someone who's Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai etc.

Generally speaking, Pretty much all the east of Turkey can be considered as Asia.

Except Russia... Because Russia.

Also joining in the vagueness of "groups" as I tend think categorizing people into groups is counter productive, dehumaninzing, and lazy so it was kinda difficult to give a decent set of answers.

Also may I ask what you think you will prove with this survey if your hypothesis is even somewhat accurate (ignoring the fact that proving societal influence or base tendency is all but impossible)? In my view even if you have something like a 90% average compliance with gender norms, their is still no gain to fallowing them at all. Human nature shows that the 10% wrong you are will matter to people way more than the 90% you are right with the "normal person"; and for outliers your telling them they are unnatural for no effective gain, other than some "truth value" for whatever measure of truth one can say facts based on probabilistic models actually have and the ability to be lazy and categorize people.

Looks like paper is about difference between sociopathic and (generally considered) normal personality.

And survey is very long. oh well. Good luck on your research.
